At 4 7/8" long, with a ring gauge of 50, the Partagas Serie D No.4 is a cigar of classic Robusto proportions. The typical D4 has a chocolate coloured, almost oily wrapper, and is firmly built (albeit responsive to a gentle squeeze), with very little surface vein.
I find the D4 an easy cigar to light, and one that burns well; there is no unevenness, and, because the draw is free and consistent, you don't need to puff too frequently or too hard to keep it alight. As a result, it does not burn too hot, which, in turn, means that there is not the bitterness that can be found with some Robustos. It also means that the D4 produces a satisfyingly long, very light grey, firmly packed ash.
Each easy draw fills the mouth with a good volume of slightly sweet smelling, bluish smoke, which is where the real fun starts: the D4 is, to my mind, of medium strength (although I know that many consider it to be strong), both in terms of the flavours and the tobacco 'punch.' I can't tell you all how psyched I was when I opened my mail box and found three beautiful Partagas Serie D No. 4. I definitely don't feel qualified or experienced enough to be doing this, but I welcome the challenge with very open arms and great thanks to Cgars Ltd for giving me the chance. Ok, on with the reviews:
First: After a nice steak dinner, I went to a great cigar lounge with some friends and broke out my first tester. The robusto had a very smooth feel, but not too oily. A nice rich chocolate color, and the construction was very good with some veins being apparent throughout the body. Unfortunately, during shipping most likely, the cap was slightly cracked, which only worsened when I applied my bullet punch cut. This tends to be the cut I like the most, especially with a robusto. I had been enjoying the aroma of the cigar since I received it. It had a great "cuban cigar" scent, that just screamed to be smoked. I took a few pre light draws and noticed a very spicy flavor. Its difficult to come up with any more superlatives for this cigar than have already been used. So, so satisfying... The aroma is sensational. Sweet honeyed woodsmoke that should be used as incense in heaven. The taste builds slowly from ordinary to sublime. Never over-strong it has savoury flavours in the finish that defy description. I have become an Oliva fan when it comes to new-world cigars and when I went looking for a cheap but a good hand made cigar, seeing these seemed the one to fit the bill. Been in the humidor for almost three days I thought to sample my first one, well sadly not the best. Quite dry which I hope is due to not being in the humidor for very long, but taste was similiar to other Oliva cinnamon with coffee notes I picked up on but really was too dry on the mouth to really appreciate the flavors I like so much from Oliva. I will re-review if the I believe 3 stars is too harsh, so fingers crossed.

Absolutely lovely smoke ! Full of flavour, it's one of them cigars what you just don't want to end ! I will be buying more of these !

I finished breakfast and had a half cup (we use the French cups, you know, the ones you use two hands to hold) of Cubita coffee left and decided to go to the terrace (actually, a deck over the garage where I do most of my smoking) and finish the coffee and smoke a No. 5.
The cigar measures 4" x 40 (mine measured 4" x 41 and though it has been described as having a ring gauge of 40 or 42, I find this to be part of the manner of storage. I will buy a few at the factory in Cuba next October and measure them to try my hypothesis) and is a mighty little might, when aged properly (as this was, thank you, C.GARS Ltd) I get a kick out of the oft overused tripe that this vitola is the brand's poorest make. Well, it that is true, all the vitolas are of my liking, the poorest still good enough for my tastes.
I found the cigar to be as full bodied as the No. 4 and a tad fuller than the No. 3 corona. It lit well and burned evenly to the last. This is a quick smoke, though I lingered with it and the last of the coffee for 25 minutes. As with the Joyitas, the ash wa
