Fonseca Cosacos Cigar - 1 Single
Date Added: Monday 15 May, 2017
This was quite a nice smooth relaxing smoke, well constructed, consistent, even burn to the end and a good cool draw throughout. Very slight herbal/hay and woody taste. The tissue paper is a nice touch too. Will buy again...

Fonseca No. 1 Cigar - 1 Single

My first Fonseca ever! It's a pretty stick with a silky smooth wrapper. On firing her up the first thought were; ha this is as I suspected creamy and mild... Absolutely fine for the price and perhaps a great early morning puff? Then things changed markedly. Wafts of morning toast on the nose and strokes of cedar to the tongue, I slowly sat up. The second third of this cigar has plenty of stories to tell and they keep getting better. The last third just got sweeter and increasingly buttery.... In a very nice way. With an inch and half to go I was blind sided by a substantial nicotine hit but the flavours kept me dragging until my fingers burnt. So no, maybe not the great morning smoke I suspected but yes a fantastic after meal smoke for sure. Possibly the best value for money stick I have tried this year! Outstanding value for money, don't be sniffy because of the price, these girls could hold their own in much more costly company. Definitely worth a punt for any cigar aficionado.

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. I bought one of these based on the previous reviews that I had read and was looking forward to sitting out on the deck with a coffee and enjoying this cigar. I was surprised when I removed the paper coating to find the stick was quite veiny and the seam of the wrapper was quite prevalent. Nevertheless, I cut and toasted (narrowly missing the remains of the cap peeling away) and then sat down to enjoy this smoke. Initially, I found the smoke harsh on the soft palate and back of the throat. I was getting a strong saltiness which wasn't unpleasant but the harshness was distracting from the flavour. Just as it began to settle down and get a bit more mellow, the burn began to grow increasingly uneven. The ash began to droop and then after only about an inch of the way down, it went out completely. I relit and continued but very soon thereafter, the burn became uneven again and a dark colouration started to develop halfway down the wrapper. It didn't lose the bitterness either. And then, another half an inch and it went out again! At this point, I was cursi

These cigars are a treat for the senses, from their unique paper wrapping to the end of the smoke. There are slight grassy notes from the unlit draw which hint at the mild flavour to come. 1st third: Creamy, tobacco with a slight toasty edge to it, almost bordering on the acrid. Not too much nicotine and a nicely medium body of smoke. 2nd third: Developed into a creamy hazelnut note - still not too strong in the nicotine level. Final third: Some of the harshness from the initial light returns and the smoke becomes more acrid, irritating the back of the throat somewhat. I have since smoked others and they had less harshness and were more consistently creamy throughout, a pleasant cigar to "sip" over an hour or so. Good even burn and I have yet to have a badly constructed one although the sample number is admittedly low!

Not the prettiest looking wrapper that's quite veiny. Thr cigar had a firm draw which eventually loosened a bit, and had a fairly even burn. A Light-Medium Cigar. Because of the firm draw, it was initially difficult to taste anything. Gradually flavours did develop and become more prominent further on. Subtle flavours I could make out were grassy or herbaecous, some nutty coffee, and there's a distance slight sour tinged. Once the smoke got going, I quite enjoyed this - and would consider it again.
