MONTECRISTO

Montecristo is the best known and probably the most appreciated brand of Havanas throughout the world. It forms the benchmark for many Havana smokers against which other brands are judged.

The name comes from Alexandre Dumas’ famous novel ‘The Count of Montecristo’, which was a firm favourite when read to the Torcedores (cigar rollers) at the factory where it was founded in 1935.

The original Montecristo range of sizes was composed of a narrow assortment numbered from 1 to 5. Today it consists of a wide variety of vitolas to cover every level of the cigar enthusiast’s needs.

Whether it is within the classic medium-to-full line, the lighter Open Series or the newer, more powerful, Linea 1935, Montecristo’s perfectly balanced blends are all created exclusively with selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone, home of the finest tobaccos in the world.

NO. 2

If ever one brand has come to dominate a particular vitola, this is it. The classic Piramide or 'torpedo' size. Easy burning with a controlled release of faithful montecristo flavours; many devotees look no further than this.

Tasting Notes

This is a rich and flavourful cigar and it burns very well. A bomb of rich spices including cinnamon and a pleasant sweetness emerges throughout the cigar. A great Havana among fine gauges.

93 / 100

"Complex and tasty, this torpedo shines with a chocolate-and-vanilla resonance from first puff to last. It’s complemented by notes of almond paste, leather and cinnamon. Balanced and delicious..."

Well now I can see what all the fuss is about, this cigar is simply gorgeous. On clipping I thought it was going to be very tight as the cigar was densely packed however this had the easiest draw I have found so far. The burn was nice and even and the spice starts to build after the first third. Strong ash and a very slow burn meant it took me 1 hour to get down to the nub. The final 3rd has a full flaovur without being harsh. I really was sorry to see the end of this one and will definitely be smoking more of these.

The wrapper on this cigar is simply gorgeous. Theres a wonderfully oily sheen to this well constructed smoke. It burns and draws well, with medium- to full-bodied flavors of chocolate, vanilla, coffee and cocoa bean. A truely delightful cigar! written by Michael

Ahhhh, now that`s what I call a great smoke. ;-)))) Still is, I`m writing this with the last two inches to go. ;-))) An extremely well made, highly complex and very satisfying stogie which is "interesting" from the moment you light it to the moment it lights your nostril hair after you`ve smoked it down to the nub. (The flavour goes off a bit at that point but I digress. ;-)) ) If you want a full bodied and full flavoured cigar which grabs your attention like the Boston Strangler, this, fellas, is the one to go for. Last third reminds me of a Cuaba with a bit more oomph - oh, forget the cost, price schmice - this is what cigars are all about. Your nicotene receptors will love you. If you get hooked on these, the bank manager will kill you, but a great way to die happy. Hats off to Mr Monte Cristo. ;-))))) 5/5. written by Dave Francis
