San Cristobal de la Habana was the original name of Havana, Cuba's capital city, when it was founded in 1519; San Cristobal (St Christopher) in honour of the Saint of the day where the city was founded, and La Habana after an Indian name for the site.

San Cristobal de la Habana cigars were introduced in 1999 on the threshold of the new Millennium as a tribute to the city's long history.

At first the range comprised just four vitolas, each names after one of the fortresses built from the 16th to the 18th Centuries that defended Havana when it was the hub of Spain's American empire. These are: El Morro, La Fuerza, La Punta and El Principe.

Tasting Notes

An ideal pre dinner smoke. Brief, not too heavy with a nice even burn.

86 / 100

"...Though attractively pressed with an oily wrapper and three-seam cap, the draw of this little cigar is notably firm. Wood and leathery notes turn sharp and perfumey..."

The San Cristobal De La Habana El Principe is a very tasty small cigar with a perfect draw mild to medium in strength with tastes of dried apricot at first then becoming spiced apricot that lasts to the end an excellent 40 minutes smoke, ideal for the beginner, coffee break or alfresco pub smoke. other small cigars that are really good are the Cohiba Siglo I, Rafael Gonzalez Perlas, Trinidad Reyes and the Montecristo No.5

I've scored it in the middle as I don't want to put people off what appears to be a great smoke (read all the reviews before I writing mine). From reading the reviews I'm guessing its a case of me being slightly unlucky. Everything about this cigar was promising, look, feel, smell but that's were it ended unfortunately. It was so tightly rolled that I had to give up about 3rd in, gutted to say the least as the aroma coming off it was lovely and the minimal amounts of smoke coming through was leaving some lovely flavours but it become impossible to smoke. As I a say read all the other reviews first but for me it just wasn't my day...or cigar!

Mixed feelings on this one. Had a really weird taste to begin with, which eventually became very pleasant towards the final third. Was very prone to tunneling and canoeing. 7/10.
