MONTECRISTO

Montecristo is the best known and probably the most appreciated brand of Havanas throughout the world. It forms the benchmark for many Havana smokers against which other brands are judged.

The name comes from Alexandre Dumas’ famous novel ‘The Count of Montecristo’, which was a firm favourite when read to the Torcedores (cigar rollers) at the factory where it was founded in 1935.

The original Montecristo range of sizes was composed of a narrow assortment numbered from 1 to 5. Today it consists of a wide variety of vitolas to cover every level of the cigar enthusiast’s needs.

Whether it is within the classic medium-to-full line, the lighter Open Series or the newer, more powerful, Linea 1935, Montecristo’s perfectly balanced blends are all created exclusively with selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone, home of the finest tobaccos in the world.

NO. 2

If ever one brand has come to dominate a particular vitola, this is it. The classic Piramide or 'torpedo' size. Easy burning with a controlled release of faithful montecristo flavours; many devotees look no further than this.

Tasting Notes

This is a rich and flavourful cigar and it burns very well. A bomb of rich spices including cinnamon and a pleasant sweetness emerges throughout the cigar. A great Havana among fine gauges.

93 / 100

"Complex and tasty, this torpedo shines with a chocolate-and-vanilla resonance from first puff to last. It’s complemented by notes of almond paste, leather and cinnamon. Balanced and delicious..."

Ill say it straight: too much fuss about this cigar! OK, its a very good cigar with superior qualities, but certainly short of the rave its causing. I smoked one aged for about a year and it was noticeably under others savoured in similar circumstances. NO 2 is like Big Brother on TV: too much fuss for not that much, in the end. Having said that, Id have it again any time. written by Mihai

Hmmmmm - update to the post below. Had another Monte 2 a couple of weeks later and - surprisingly - nowhere near as enjoyable. Think I understand the "smile on the dog" post below, now. Don`t get me wrong, still an excellent smoke, when they`re right, they`re very right. When they`re not quite right, they`re still a fine smoke, though. written by Dave Francis

The pyramid sized monte #2 was a great cigar and had a mass smoke .the cigar I smoked was a bit loose so had a bit of hot smoke a the last two inches. The cigar had a complex smoke,I recomend these cigars after a meal with cognac or after a late lunch when readin the newspappers. written by Tarkan Nevzat GBR
