Jose L. Piedra is a particularly noteworthy Habano not only because its blend is composed of filler tobaccos grown exclusively in the Remedios tobacco region, but also because it is made using the totally hand made, short filler technique.

The Piedra family came to Cuba in the 1880's from the Spanish province of Asturias. They settled near the town of Santa Clara, which lies at the heart of the Remedios region where tobacco has been grown since the 16th century, and started to make cigars.

Tasting Notes

This medium-bodied cigar will provide an earthy taste with a great draw and creamy smoke. Hints of salt and tanginess will hit the lips giving an interesting flavour.

Recently Ive had to tighten my cigar budget and was looking for something affordable but can also be a good humidor filler. After extensive searching for bundles, I came across this stick. I went in and bought 5 straight away. What I didnt expect was to smoke all 5 within a couple of days. I was thoroughly impressed with the build and feel of the cigar. A few green spots here and there but nothing undesirable. The light and burn was consistent, the draw was decent. As mentioned previously by others, the flavour was very mild and not very exciting or complex but that, by no way means, doesnt mean it was not enjoyed. In fact, it was a little difficult to not smoke another a few hours later given the price. Of course this isnt going to be the best cigar but damn, this will be a regular purchase. For a Cuban at this price is say its a 10/10 for value. This is a must have for any humidor. Its nothing to show off but nothing to be ashamed about either.

I have bought these exact cigars 3 times over the years and whilst they aren't often the best rolled of the Jose L Piedra range I feel the need to write an accurate review of them. Some of those produced aren't rolled correctly (sometimes to tightly, but not overly) but overall I find it crazy that ANY large gauge and large length size smoker hasn't at least given these a go. Iv been smoking Cubans and non Cubans REGULARLY for 15 years and I honestly believe you wont find better bang for your buck than the Jose L Piedra range. I'm not going to name the other high end Cubans I believe this is better than... However, you should really give these a go as although you may get a single bad one out of every 50 that the other 49 would honestly warrant double their price tag.

My favourite of the Jose L Piedra cigars I’ve smoked. Smooth and earthy with a slight hint of cocoa. The taste is, in my opinion, very appealing and the burn isn’t too bad. Not perfect by any means but I’ve never needed to relight or correct any uneven burning on one of these. Their only real downside is the construction. Like all JLP cigars they’re rough and flaky, sometimes with a slight curve to the stick. Also, as with all JLPs it would seem, the last 3cm or so get tarry and bitter, but that’s overshadowed by the rest of the stick. I’ve always got a few of these in my humidor. They’re my favourite daily smoke. Much tastier than their cheaper cousins, the Cremas , and not as large as the Cazadores. At 30-45 minutes, I can finish one of these on my lunch break without having to rush. The ash can hold well but I wouldn’t advise letting it get much longer than 3-4cm as it’s prone to drop off and isn’t usually very firm when it does. I give these a 5/5 for taste and 4/5 for burn. They get 2/5 for construction, but overall I give these 5/5 because the price and the flavour will always beat construction in my book. A great, inexpensive stick. I highly recommend them.

Personally I didn’t buy this one direct from this supplier but this is a lovely smoke! Plenty of smoke and taste. Earthy under tones and a decent cheaper alternative if you can afford a Trinidad Reyes!!! For this reason it gets 4/5 stars from me

I am a relatively inexperienced cigar smoker, but I found this more of a light to medium bodied cigar, and very pleasant, providing a smooth and earthy taste throughout. The draw is great and the ash holds well. I did not get any hints of salt but did get the tanginess flavour. I will certainly be trying this again.
