Since 1845 the Robaina family has farmed tobacco continuously on its precious vegas (fields) at Cuchillas de Barbacoa situated in the San Luis district of the Vuelta Abajo tobacco zone.

Vegas Robaina cigars were introduced in 1997 as a tribute to Cuban tobacco farmers through the figurehead of Don Alejandro Robaina whose reputation in his day for producing the finest wrapper leaves was legendary. In effect, the brand honours all the anonymous tobacco growers whose knowledge and skill make Habanos what they are today.

Tasting Notes

Fruity flavour, chocolate notes may also be experienced towards the final third. A good draw and not normally tight, with very good construction. Also a great Havana.

"...Silky and tawny, this cigar burns with a rich aroma. It has a creamy coffee taste with dry wood and vanilla bean notes..."

Michael, try another. It would be a shame never to enjoy one. This is one of the most enjoyable cigars for a while. Well, a fortnight, since my first Partagàs Series P 4, anyway. Two great cigars but also very different. The Vegas Robaina Familiares is indeed familiar, as it immediately evoked a Villager Export I enjoyed on the banks of Windermere back in the 80s, when I struggled to afford even those. That might seem faint praise of the VRF, but I have smoked more expensive brands that afforded less pleasure than that lowly Villager in subsequent years. I would describe the VRF as the fruit, rather than the flowering the tobacco plant. It is full of rich flavour, spicy without overpowering the palate. The burn is even and reliable. I judge an excellent cigar as one that absorbs the smoker and does not need liquid to soothe the tongue. The VRF is an excellent cigar and very hard to beat at the price. Impossible, perhaps.

Vegas Robaina is one of my favourite brands and one of the most respected brands in Cuba but unfortunately this brand is not very popular in the UK Market, this is something that I hope to change with time and for me it is a pleasure to recommend these great cigars. Vegas Robaina Familiares 142mm x 42 and medium to full strength is a perfect cigar for the evening to enjoy indoors, I would never recommend smoking this cigar in the street. Please come to our sampling room and enjoy them. This cigar is perfectly accompanied with a nice dark espresso. This single Familiar that I enjoyed today was made in 1999; If you leave this to age it makes this cigar a great smoke. The first puff begins with lovely woody toasted coffee notes. I can also taste a few nutty notes and a very smooth and just a little bit of spicy white peppery notes. The second part I can taste more of the toasted nuts with a hint of honey and the characteristic woody flavour still present, I can taste a tiny ginger note on my palate between each puff. The third part is more full flavour with a very rich sweet caramel taste and spicy ginger and a few notes that remind me of the peat taste of whisky. In one word, gorgeous, great smoke and great cigar, I recommend to also trying the other sizes of this brand, one of my favourite is the Hermosos No.4 size, Vegas Robaina Famosos – David, Turmeaus Liverpool.
