Named after William Shakespeare's tragic lovers, the origins of Romeo y Julieta as a Habano date back to 1875.

The brand rose to international fame during the early years of the 20th Century under the direction of Don 'Pepin' Rodriguez, a talented promoter, who was amongst the first to recognise the power of the cigar band. During his hey day no less than 20,000 different bands were used in production.

Winston Churchill became a devotee of the brand. Following his visit to Havana in 1946, his name has not only been commemorated on a band but it has also served to describe the marque's most famous size - Romeo y Julieta Churchill.

The 21st century has seen the arrival of two additional sizes using the name. The first called Short Churchill, a robusto size that had been missing from the range, was added in 2006. The second launched as the 21st Festival del Habano in 2010, was Wide Churchills, which boasts a 55 ring gauge to mark the trend amongst enthusiasts for stouter girth vitolas.

Romeo y Julieta's balanced and aromatic blend of selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone make it the classic medium bodied Habano.

Today Romeo y Julieta is well known around the world as ever and offers the widest range of long filler sizes in any Habano brand.

Tasting Notes

Very nice draw and burn. Mild, fruity flavours with undertones of leather and earth.

Not too bad a smoke. Id imagine this is the perfect strength and vitola for those who arent experienced with cigars. Erroneously paired with Jameson Black Barrel expecting a sweeter flavour profile, could do with a peaty/smoky whisky. Build quality sub-par, with the wrapper exposing the binder at the head of the cigar - I managed to salvage it. Draw and burn were surprisingly perfect. Flavour consists of a soft, creamy, earthy foundation opening up hints of light leather and Italian herbs, think pesto. Second half brought out familiar RyJ tones of pepper, ripe fruits and roasted walnuts. Dry throughout. I had to try hard to determine these specific flavours as they were not obvious at all until the second half, where the flavour was still buried under the smoke. Stick it in the humidor for a few months before smoking.

I really think that something happened with this beautiful cigar. I’m smoking cigars since 7/8 years but mostly just in occasions so definitely not a guru. This was my way to go cigar. In the last 2 years it’s slightly different, the draw is very tight and reading all the other comments I realised that it’s not just me. The flavours are always them, burn beautiful and they are perfectly build but often I find my self using a draw tool (that I bought just for them). It simply wasn’t like that a few years ago.

The first cigar Ive ever ordered, it feels a little dry. But I have nothing to Compare it to really. It makes a crackly noise when a little pressure is applied with my finger and thumb. But no cracking. I will know better By Christmas after Ive purchased a few different cigars.

I’m fairly new to cigars so take this with a pinch of salt. Very difficult to smoke compared to other cigars. Burn was not great at all. I also found it quite rough and far more like smoking 5 cigarettes. Wouldn’t get again.

Amazing with age making perfect, but they never survive… When young the sweet awaiting damson black fruit jam, with pediment woody earthiness and its own Cuban spices takes you away, but never over powers with a light to medium smoke… Although the beginning may seem a little boring, thats only because its new, any tightness of draw also goes after a few years too… use the perfect draw if you need to… This like its big brother is good, but great if youre able to keep it for ten years, when the flavours are really able to mature into crafted perfection… A Cuban cigar is a luxury and should be enjoyed slowly to permit the flavours to develop and evolve without the rush of the world intruding into the created sublime… NB: Always make sure that youre buying the long fillers and not the cheaper veriant as theyre not the same at all... C.gars only sell the real thing so youre safe here...
