Description

A long-aged 1972 Glenfarclas 42-year-old bottled as part of the distillery's famous Family Casks series in 2015.

This Family Cask Glenfarclas 1972 came from Cask 3548, a 42-year-old sherry butt that yielded a very impressive 625 bottles at a natural cask strength of 45.6%, making it accessible but robust enough to carry the flavours.

Glenfarclas The Family Casks 1975 40 year old 4th Fill Hogshead is a fantastic Family Cask, distilled in 1975 and put into Cask 1185, a single 4th fill Hogshead.

In 2007, Glenfarclas launched The Family Casks range. At first the collection consisted of 43 single cask, vintage single malts, spanning 1952 to 2004. As stocks dwindled, the series has gone through several reincarnations, resulting in more than 380 vintages from 1953 to 2004

The Family Cask Collection offers the whisky connoisseur the opportunity to sample the full range of Glenfarclas single malts, which have been matured in a variety of different sherry casks and bottled at cask strength

The Single Malt fund is delighted to offer this set of 52 Glenfarclas Family cask bottlings, with one bottle for each vintage, from 1953 to 2004, with whiskies aged from 14 to 59 years old

The Family Casks represent a drinkable history of Glenfarclas’s unique story. Each vintage tells the story of the distillery and of craftmanship, handed down from generation to generation

This collection offers a rare opportunity to own one of the great collections in the history of Scotch Whisky.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Extremely complex and "very mature." Initial aromas include dark honey, toffee, caramel, and rich, dried fruits (raisins, prunes, dried peach). This is layered with spices such as nutmeg, cloves, and pepper, along with notes of old leather, roasted nuts (pecan), and dark chocolate/mocha.

Palate: Oily, creamy, and smooth mouthfeel. It is heavily sherry-driven, featuring rum-soaked cherries, molasses, fruit leather, and a distinct "dunnage warehouse" mustiness or earthy, peaty undertone. Hints of bitter coffee and dark wood tannins emerge with time.

Finish: Very long and warm, with lingering notes of sherry, dark chocolate, tobacco, nuts, and a gentle woody drynes
