H. UPMANN

H. Upmann is one of the oldest cigar brands in existence, dating back to the 1840s. It was started when Herman Upmann quit his job as a banker in the early 1840’s and went about opening up a branch office in Havana. Upmann quickly realised that he could begin a commercial endeavour in the industry and in 1844 he made the bold investment of a cigar factory and the H. Upmann brand was officially launched.

Later on in 1922, both the Upmann bank and the cigar business went bankrupt and they had to sell up to J. Frankau & Co., a British firm who continued the production of the cigars up until 1935 at which point the brand was sold on again to the recently established Menendez y Garcia Co., the makers of the famous Montecristo cigar. The new owners continued the production of H. Upmann cigars up until the nationalisation of the tobacco industry after the Cuban revolution.

H. Upmann's blend is composed exclusively of filler and binder tobaccos grown in the Vuelta Abajo zone.

Gold medals in no less than eleven international exhibitions during the 19th Century can be found on the brand's labelled boxes.

CONNOISSEUR NO. 2

The Connoisseur No. 2 is a unique vitola within the Habanos portfolio - it is known as Bohemios (Bohemians in English) It is the first Havana cigar to boast a ring gauge of 51 and joins the Connoisseur A, B and No. 1 within the H. Upmann classic portfolio.

For over 150 years H. Upmann has been famous for the exemplary balance it provided to its light to medium bodied blend cigars and the Connoisseur No. 2 brings a modern touch to a much loved classic.

Tasting Notes

"An oily, reddish-brown robusto with a flat head and triple cap. It’s predominantly sweet, showing some floral qualities that meld with notes of caramel, chocolate and gingerbread atop a woody core. The draw is lush, and the burn, even..."
