Trinidad is named after the beautiful 16th Century city of La Santisima Trinidad (The Holy Trinity), listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, which is situated on Cuba's south coast.

Trinidad, as a Habano brand, dates back to 1969 but for many years, like Cohiba, it was made only for gifts to foreign diplomats. Not until 1998 was it released for general sale and then only in small quantities.

At the start there was only one size of Trinidad: Fundadores. In 2003 three more sizes, the Reyes, the Coloniales and the Robusto Extra, were added to the range. At the same time Trinidad's livery and its cigar band were updated to recognise the prestige that the brand commanded. Most recently, in 2009, the Trinidad Robusto T was introduced to complement the brand's range.

For several years Trinidad was made at El Laguito, the Cohiba factory, where its uniquely fragrant and aromatic, medium flavoured blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone was developed.

Tasting Notes

A rich roasted macademia and leathery coffee flavours mixed with a very creamy draw. An extremely well crafted cigar with a perfect burn and draw. Don't hesitate, buy as many as you can!

The cigar looks amazing, with its beautiful dark wrapper, oily sheen and a Trinidad gold banding which is always nice on the eyes! Draw was a little difficult as tobacco was fairly tightly packed, with medium amount of smoke, certainly not as much (with a not as easy draw) as the Robusto T or even the Reyes. Still, the taste was more spicey than the Robusto (though less creamy), and more deep richer than the Reyes. Roasted taste intensified during the second third of the cigar, with hints of sweetness found. Ash has started off uneven, but did level off after an inch, with the ash lasting around1 1/2 inches until falling. Dark grey ash, again not as smooth as the Montecristo No. 2, but smoother than the Robusto T and Reyes, with white star-like nodules present (similar to the Reyes). Apart from the size, which is modest, though not one I would prefer, the taste and look of the cigar was first class. I am very harsh when I score any cigar (remember 4-5 is excellent, 3 is middle of the road, with 1-2 as not so good), but 4/5 is very good. Not bad price for a Cuban Trinidad, medium sized stick packed with roasted spicy, leather and coffee flavours with hint of sweetness.

Good construction; immediately pleasing to eyes, nose and fingers. No hassle when lighting. After first couple of draws, body and flavour become apparent; warm, full; slightly spicy, leather and coffee with a slight pepper... through hearty and cheering leather, cocoa and pepper to woody, still creamy, peppery and gentle leather flavours. I smoked this cigar with a spiced rum; it complimented the softer elements of the flavour. I've only a young palate, so I hope to enjoy this cigar in a few years time, after a little more practice. To conclude: Yes. Ever-so-slightly-cheaper than other equivalent, recommended, big-name smokes, without being inferior. Ferg

smokes - really first class. Even more so considering they are young sicks. By now or regret for ever. Consistent, good draw, med/full flavour and strength, great blend = no bitterness. written by Asgard
