TRINIDAD

Trinidad is named after the beautiful 16th Century city of La Santísima Trinidad (The Holy Trinity), listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site, which is situated on Cuba’s south coast.

Trinidad, as a Havana brand, dates back to 1969 but for many years, like Cohiba, it was made only as gifts to foreign diplomats. Not until 1998 was it released for general sale and then only in small quantities.

At the start there was only the one size of  Fundadores before more were added through the years (In 2003 three more sizes: Reyes, Coloniales and Robusto Extra and then in 2009 the Robusto T - In 2011 Habanos S.A. announced the withdrawal of Robusto Extras and Robusto Ts from regular production). In 2009 Trinidad’s livery and its cigar band were updated to recognise the prestige that the brand commanded.

For several years Trinidad was made at El Laguito, the Cohiba factory, where its uniquely fragrant and aromatic, medium flavoured blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo region was developed.

By the end of 2004 demand for Trinidad had outstripped the production capacity at El Laguito and it was decided that the manufacture of all the brand’s sizes should be transferred to Pinar del Rio City. It is here that Trinidad is made today close to the famous Vuelta Abajo plantations.

All sizes are ‘Tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally hand made vitolas

COLONIALES

A useful slightly extra girth petit corona, which allows you access to Trinidad's unique flavour in a size that can be smoked in just 30 minutes or so. Added to the range in 2003

Tasting Notes

A rich roasted macademia and leathery coffee flavours mixed with a very creamy draw. An extremely well crafted cigar with a perfect burn and draw. Don't hesitate, buy as many as you can!

92 / 100

"Covered in an attractive colorado wrapper and topped with a pigtail, this cigar has a slightly firm draw. Toasty, floral notes transition to hints of chocolate, spice and a very well-pronounced note of candied pecan..."

Aesthetically it doesn't quite stack up to other Havanas of a similar size. But don't be fooled by its average looks: the flavours are smooth and medium-light, with a nice even, moderately paced burn. Draw was close to perfect and very smooth. Definitely worth the money. Will certainly buy a few more of these 45 minute wonders.

Got some to try as I got some Robusto T's. These are nearly as good, lovely flavour, lovely looks. Slightly uneven burn, but still very good

Just smoked my first Trinidad Coloniales, I'm a novice to cigars so you should view my review with caution! The first two thirds of the cigar I definitely found the draw too firm, I just wasn't getting enough smoke to get a real appreciation for the flavours. In the last third it really opened up, and I assume this was because the last third in this cigar was packed less densley. I bought two of these, and i'll keep the other in my humidor for awhile to see if it adds anything - if i'm going from this one experience alone however, I'm going to shoot for a harsh 2/5 - I was expecting a little more.

A fairly firm draw. Flavours are creamy roasted coffee.
