ROMEO Y JULIETA

Named after William Shakespeare’s tragic lovers, the origins of Romeo y Julieta as a Havana date back to 1875.

The brand rose to international fame during the early years of the 20th Century under the direction of Don ‘Pepin’ Rodriguez, a talented promoter who was amongst the first to recognise the power of the cigar band. During his heyday no less than 20,000 different bands were used in the production of cigars.

Winston Churchill became a devotee of the brand and following his visit to Havana in 1946, his name has not only been commemorated on a band, but it has also served to describe the marque’s most famous size – Romeo y Julieta Churchills.

Romeo y Julieta’s balanced and aromatic blend of selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone make it the classic medium bodied Havana.

Today Romeo y Julieta is as well known around the world as ever and offers one of the widest range of tripa larga, totalmente a mano – long filler, totally handmade – sizes of any Havana brand.

SHORT CHURCHILL

Upon its release in 2006 this cigar became the first medium flavoured robusto from Cuba. This modern shape also proved an ideal way to update the famous association of the Churchill name with Havana cigars. Hardly surprising then that it has gone on to become such a huge success.

Tasting Notes

An easy drawing, medium flavour, light strength cigar that is sweet in taste from the first to the last puff.

"Rich in appearance with a reddish tinge to the wrapper. It’s a cedary smoke with a dried fruit midpalate and fresh tobacco finish that carries a slight note of honey..."

Don’t know if I had a duff one but my last one was not good. I cut it as per usual fashion taking care with the cap not too short. The wrapper unraveling came as a surprise and it was only the band that kept it totally destroying itself. The taste was ruined and I gave up on it ….. expensive cigar to bin….

Great construction and burn. Lovely draw. Sweet wood and black pepper, then becomes more creamy with a floral perfume like finish. Towards the end becomes more floral. Not to my taste compared to other Cubans but a pleasant experience overall.

Well this little beautys what set me off smoking cigars. I had my first one while on holiday in Cuba a couple of weeks ago. On return home, I ordered this as part of a sampler pack, but unfortunately this one didnt smoke the same. I struggled to keep it lit and the draw was uneven. I understand these are hand made so hopefully this wont happen again. Ill still order more.

Had one of these in the tube as a treat one day walking through town. I must say it was right up there in my top ten cigars ever smoked. Nice size...very similar to a robusto size which I think are perfect sized cigars. It produced that many nice tastes and aromas that I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Let's just say it was spot on!
