ROMEO Y JULIETA

Named after William Shakespeare’s tragic lovers, the origins of Romeo y Julieta as a Havana date back to 1875.

The brand rose to international fame during the early years of the 20th Century under the direction of Don ‘Pepin’ Rodriguez, a talented promoter who was amongst the first to recognise the power of the cigar band. During his heyday no less than 20,000 different bands were used in the production of cigars.

Winston Churchill became a devotee of the brand and following his visit to Havana in 1946, his name has not only been commemorated on a band, but it has also served to describe the marque’s most famous size – Romeo y Julieta Churchills.

Romeo y Julieta’s balanced and aromatic blend of selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone make it the classic medium bodied Havana.

Today Romeo y Julieta is as well known around the world as ever and offers one of the widest range of tripa larga, totalmente a mano – long filler, totally handmade – sizes of any Havana brand.

CHURCHILL

Romeo’s time honoured star size, this is an icon. The vitola dates from the early 20th century. Churchill permitted his name to be used on it from the mid 1950s. Imposing, statesmanlike; a commanding size that rewards the smoker with richly developing flavours.

Tasting Notes

The aroma is beautiful, and the construction and burn were flawless. The intoxicating and decadent vanilla and cream combination is the most unforgettable. One hell of a smoke.

----

93 / 100

"A back-and-forth interplay of sweet and savory, as every note of graham cracker, vanilla and caramel is balanced by a counter-note of leather, brine and salted peanut. The draw is a touch firm, but the burn is dead even..."

I cant really say that I had ever heard of Romeo y Julieta before, or really took much notice of the cigar market, beyond buying the odd pack of Hamlet here and there, but on a recent holiday to Greece, I stumbled on some Cohibas at the duty free shop at the airport. Curiosity got the better of me & bought some. Keen to get home and try them out, I got through most of them far faster than I had anticipated, so I decided to have a trawl the internet to top up my stash and came across the C.Gar site. I was quite taken aback at the wide choice of cigars available. I did not know there were so many to choose from. So after spending a good 20 minutes looking through all the options and descriptions of all the range I decided to buy a 3 pack of these bad boys. I liked the idea of them being individually tubed inside the box, so once Ive got through my Cohibas, Im going to move onto these ones. I also loved the prompt service I got from C.Gars too. I can see me buying more from here at some point soon too. Im thinking of buying a pack of Montecristo to see which I like best then Im looking to buy a box of 25. Happy smoking.

I have read other peoples review of this cigar, they must of not got the same RJ's as me. This is great cigar, it depends how you smoke it to get the taste.Puff on it like mad and it will be hot and tastless. Give it time and enjoy then the tastes are what you find, each to their own, I enjoy all of the RJ brand.BUT you can not beat a good Cuban Cigar what ever the brand written by Barry Jones

Romeo y Julieta, Churchill A friend bought me one of these on my birthday, nice biscuits i thought, Vodka and Cigars. The cigar was a perfect, from begining to end. My friends was a bit different and got blocked halfway through and died an early death, Not a problem as he had bought a 3 box and was happily puffing again. This cigar took up about three hours of bliss on a perfect day, my wife happened to be abroad. I would recommend these to anyone with time on their hands Jona written by Jona Jewitt GBR
