EL REY DEL MUNDO

The Cuban cigar brand of El Rey Del Mundo was believed to be first created in 1848 by German businessman Emilio Ohmstedt who also created Sanch Panza cigars. After Ohmstedt’s death the Cuban cigar company was passed on to Antonio Allones sometime around 1882. El Rey Del Mundo (or ‘King of the World’ in Spanish) was at one time the most expensive and prestigious cigar brand in the world - Under Allones’ command it reached the height of its prestige.

Allones’ company was later bought out by the Diaz Hermanos y Cia venture owned by Candido Vega Diaz who then later renamed themselves the Rey Del Mundo Cigar Co. To highlight their most famous asset, although other brands such as Sancho Panza, Rafael González, and Don Cándido were also produced by them.

The success lives on to this day in a selected range of Habanos renowned for its light to medium flavour and consistency.

All sizes contain a blend of filler and binder tobacco from the Vuelta Abajo zone and are made by the ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade technique.

CHOIX SUPREME

The definitive size of El Rey, this heavy girth vitola is a great example of the brand's subtle light to medium blend.

Tasting Notes

With its magnificent balance and its rare proportions this cigar makes for a perfect smoke. Rich and bold, a good draw and combustion.

92 / 100

"Floral first puffs become nutty and leathery with a beefy undertone and sweet notes of caramel and molasses. There’s a slight, spicy kick on the finish of this cigar, which draws and burns evenly...."

This is a good, enjoyable smoke if you like spiciness in cigars. This flavour doesnt run high on my list though, and I knew from the very first mouthful that it would become bitter towards the end. It did. Apart from that, this is a smooth burner of very good build quality. written by Mihai

A smooth spicy cigar. Excellent construction, Both of mine burned well without any construction problems. Not bad but for me it just lacked something I would probably try another though so dont let it put you off. written by MrY
