EL REY DEL MUNDO

The Cuban cigar brand of El Rey Del Mundo was believed to be first created in 1848 by German businessman Emilio Ohmstedt who also created Sanch Panza cigars. After Ohmstedt’s death the Cuban cigar company was passed on to Antonio Allones sometime around 1882. El Rey Del Mundo (or ‘King of the World’ in Spanish) was at one time the most expensive and prestigious cigar brand in the world - Under Allones’ command it reached the height of its prestige.

Allones’ company was later bought out by the Diaz Hermanos y Cia venture owned by Candido Vega Diaz who then later renamed themselves the Rey Del Mundo Cigar Co. To highlight their most famous asset, although other brands such as Sancho Panza, Rafael González, and Don Cándido were also produced by them.

The success lives on to this day in a selected range of Habanos renowned for its light to medium flavour and consistency.

Tasting Notes

With its magnificent balance and its rare proportions this cigar makes for a perfect smoke. Rich and bold, a good draw and combustion.

92 / 100

"Floral first puffs become nutty and leathery with a beefy undertone and sweet notes of caramel and molasses. There’s a slight, spicy kick on the finish of this cigar, which draws and burns evenly...."

Just the thing for a morning smoke - fairly light body and light but marvelous flavors that can be savored without overpowering. Reliable and consistent, a quiet dependable favorite. written by JM USA

Very nice. A light smoke with pleasant spicy, earthy flavours. Some minor burn problems on the one I smoked - nice construction, an open draw - a very pleasant rich and toasty smoke which should appeal to everyone. Not soused with complexity, but a good day cigar to relax with. You could smoke far worse for the price. written by Dave Francis

A beautiful made cigar, nice and light in the hand. Smoking is easy and creamy, smooth. Nice even burn with a white ash. A medium bodied smoke. A nice 45 minute smoke. written by Michael

Yeah, not bad, but as others have said slightly overrated. I bought a box in Guardalavaca in May '05 and they are FRESH, very green, but even just one month in the humidor they are improving...3* at the moment but I reckon with a few more good months aging these babies'll be worthy of that overrated 5*!!! written by Marcus
