OLIVA

The Oliva Cigar story began in the late 1800s, when Melanio Oliva started growing cigar tobacco in Cuba. His heirs carried on the family tradition in the fields, but it was his grandson Gilberto Oliva Sr. who began making cigars.

Nicaraguan tobacco helped Oliva survive. The cigar that brought it to the attention of connoisseurs debuted in 2006: Oliva Serie V. Made by a small group of rollers and blended for strength and style, the Serie V line was an immediate hit. In 2012, to pay tribute to the first man in the family to grow cigar tobacco, Oliva added the Melanio version, which is distinguished from the original by its Sumatra-seed wrapper grown in Ecuador. The No. 1 Cigar of the Year 2014, Oliva Serie V Melanio Figuarado has rich, big notes of leather framed by a range of coffee, caramel and woody intonations. It’s a classic smoke.

SERIE G

Serie G is a medium body blend made with authentic African-Cameroon wrapper. The unique flavour notes of this wrapper are complemented by the natural richness of Nicaraguan fillers.

Tasting Notes

The Serie G is a cigar with notes of cedar and coffee. It is an excellent balance of smoke and flavour.

Lit easily. Didnt go out. A consistent smooth smoke throughout until the very end with only a slight peppery taste. I would say this took me an hour to smoke but i am a slow smoker so i would probably guess about 30 - 45 minutes. Will buy again.

Now this was an interesting and different smoke. The taste is dark, a little more acidic to my palate, and almost savoury-tasting. I agree with the general description that there are hints of leather, also dark bitter chocolate and slight peppery notes. Similar to a coffee-infused Tabac Especiale I tried from Nicaragua. If you’re interested in branching out from just Cuban cigars and you want a good strength and shortish smoke, give these a try.
