MONTECRISTO

Montecristo is the best known and probably the most appreciated brand of Havanas throughout the world. It forms the benchmark for many Havana smokers against which other brands are judged.

The name comes from Alexandre Dumas’ famous novel ‘The Count of Montecristo’, which was a firm favourite when read to the Torcedores (cigar rollers) at the factory where it was founded in 1935.

The original Montecristo range of sizes was composed of a narrow assortment numbered from 1 to 5. Today it consists of a wide variety of vitolas to cover every level of the cigar enthusiast’s needs.

Whether it is within the classic medium-to-full line, the lighter Open Series or the newer, more powerful, Linea 1935, Montecristo’s perfectly balanced blends are all created exclusively with selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone, home of the finest tobaccos in the world.

EDMUNDO

Named after Alexandre Dumas' hero Edmundo Dantes in 'The Count of Montecristo' the Edmundo was one of the first extra heavy gauge, parejo sizes produced in Cuba in the 21st Century - Big and rewarding!

The Montecristo Edmundo is a classic Cuban Robusto that delivers the brand’s signature balance and refinement. From the first light, it shows why it remains a favourite among aficionados. Construction & Burn This cigar is beautifully made — a firm, evenly packed roll with a smooth, slightly oily wrapper and a neatly finished triple cap. The draw is generally easy and the burn stays even throughout, producing a generous, clean smoke. Flavour Profile The flavor starts with soft cedar and a subtle earthy tobacco base, soon joined by creamy cocoa and a hint of sweet cedar sweetness. As the cigar progresses, those early notes give way to richer tones: dark cocoa or dark chocolate, roasted coffee, and gentle baking-spice undertones. Some smokers also detect walnut, cedar, and delicate nutty or woody nuances, particularly as the smoke deepens. Mid-way through, the smoke can offer a pleasant nuttiness or warm coffee-cedar mix, balanced by Montecristo’s hallmark smoothness. Toward the end, subtle spice or a slightly bitter cocoa note may emerge — but it remains well-controlled, never harsh Strength & Overall Experience The Edmundo sits squarely in the medium-strength range. It’s not overpowering, yet delivers enough depth to satisfy experienced smokers. Cigar Aficionado Overall, the Montecristo Edmundo is a refined, classically balanced cigar — rich enough for a satisfying session yet smooth enough for more relaxed, contemplative smoking. It’s an excellent representation of Montecristo’s heritage: polished, subtle, and dependable. For anyone building or expanding their humidor, this stick is a reliable, high-quality choice.

A smooth cigar with the classic smooth Montecristo flavour profile with rich leather and coffee notes. Medium strength but smooth and well constructed. No draw issues at all. I smoked this for easily an hour with no problems.

Burn time circa 1hour 15 mins. Montecristo is one of my favourite Cuban blends. I decided to pick this from the humidor to celebrate a promotion at work and a job well done. This lifted the spirit on a cold dark wet winters afternoon and delivered a easy going, smooth, sophisticated slightly creamy and medium bodied smoke. It was so easy to smoke the time went by in a flash. Paired this with Bushmills 10 and was a great combination and got me in the festive spirit.

A delightful cigar, consistent from the first to the last lamented draw. Cedar, leather and pepper, along with a cool sweetness that is totally wonderful on the palate. When In search of the mythical never ending cigar, you’d want it to be like this, never harsh and always communicating it’s provdence from every easy pull. So much so that despite being an infrequent cigar smoker, today I felt the need to smoke another cigar later in the day. Sadly it wasn’t an Edmundo, but a giant slayer in the guise of a Jose Piedra, whilst not as sublime as the Monte, scratched the itch that it had left me with. I’d give the Edmundo a 4.5, it’s not a No2 but it is an undeniably good smoke and one that should be a go to on a warm summers day when relaxation with no hassle is what is required. Some have said that the burn is a little uneaven, yes maybe slightly, but never did it canoe or become something that dominated the smoke. I know that I often say this, but I’d urge you to try this wonderful cigar should you get the chance.
