MONTECRISTO

Montecristo is the best known and probably the most appreciated brand of Havanas throughout the world. It forms the benchmark for many Havana smokers against which other brands are judged.

The name comes from Alexandre Dumas’ famous novel ‘The Count of Montecristo’, which was a firm favourite when read to the Torcedores (cigar rollers) at the factory where it was founded in 1935.

The original Montecristo range of sizes was composed of a narrow assortment numbered from 1 to 5. Today it consists of a wide variety of vitolas to cover every level of the cigar enthusiast’s needs.

Whether it is within the classic medium-to-full line, the lighter Open Series or the newer, more powerful, Linea 1935, Montecristo’s perfectly balanced blends are all created exclusively with selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone, home of the finest tobaccos in the world.

NO. 2

If ever one brand has come to dominate a particular vitola, this is it. The classic Piramide or 'torpedo' size. Easy burning with a controlled release of faithful montecristo flavours; many devotees look no further than this.

Tasting Notes

This is a rich and flavourful cigar and it burns very well. A bomb of rich spices including cinnamon and a pleasant sweetness emerges throughout the cigar. A great Havana among fine gauges.

93 / 100

"Complex and tasty, this torpedo shines with a chocolate-and-vanilla resonance from first puff to last. It’s complemented by notes of almond paste, leather and cinnamon. Balanced and delicious..."

This is my desert island cigar. If I had a constant supply of these, a fathomless wine cellar, an equally endless supply of good books and a comfy chair parked on a white sand beach I would spend whatever years were to be given to me reclining in joyous repose and staring wistfully into an infinite middle distance

Just simply has to be 5*. Smoked one of these on my brothers wedding evening with a few chaps and the aroma was amazing - Family members who aren't even fans of cigars were keen to smell the smoke due to the richness of the smell. Would smoke another & recommend trying for the price!!

This is my first Montecristo No.2, and I can sat without any hesitation that it will not be my last, (God willing of course). A beautifully constructed cigar amongst the best I have ever seen at any price. The draw is as Bill mentions in his review, is simply heavenly, cool and easy with no effort required whatsoever. The flavour is full with a lovely balance of spice, nuttiness and creamy cedar, even my wife commented on how lovely the smell from it was and that's no mean feat! The burn is even with no need to re-light even when left for a few minutes. This is a treat even amongst the very finest of cigars and one that in time, I will come to look upon as an old friend, who's company while not frequent is very much welcome. The Montecristo No.2 is a very fine cigar with a well deserved reputation which it happily lives up to and exceeds, if you haven't yet tried one, you really should do so, as you are missing out on a bonafide giant killer. I cannot wait to see another in my humidor!

Not sure if it's the change to BST. But something's keeping me awake. The unwritten rule I have is "if awake for an hour might as well get up". In this case also means might as well have a smoke. A lot in the humidor at the moment and I have a few options, but standing out is the lone Monte #2. It's been there a while but for some reason has remained unmolested. Shortly after relighting I am reminded why I always claim this is my favourite cigar. Lighting is easy and then it just become like the king wenceslass Carol. "clean and crisp and even" Smokes like a non fussed trooper to half way when it takes on a slightly perfumed note to the last third at which point it takes on the trade mark full Monte flavour and really starts to sing. Make no mistake this is a king of all cigars. To put it in context, there are ten cohiba esplendidos in the humidor at the moment and this is better than any of them.
