A very strange taste. Almost impossible to describe. I didn't detect anything leathery or vinegary. There is a nice underlying fruity sweetness, but it's laced with a flavour which to me seemed something like a cross between an oily rag and burnt cabbage and the room note is probably offensive enough to drive any non-smokers out of the building. It's not for everyone, but it's the kind of tobacco that Satan might enjoy, so I'd recommend it.

Not for me. It's not a 'bad' smoke per-say, and is actually really satisfying to rub-out and smell. I was looking for something quite full-flavoured, and this is definitely that. It's just a little too much on the 'leathery' & 'boot-polish' side for me. YMMV. Ah well, I'll keep it sealed and may revisit it one day, or possibly add a little to a bowlful of something milder, as a complementary flavour. There's certainly a LOT of flavour there, a lot to unpack; it's very in your face, and I can see why some people might enjoy this. So don't let me put you off it; I'm still glad I tried it.

Very leafy and compact, if you like a strong but cool smoke of a leathery nature this may be for you. I found it very enjoyable

This is my first rope tobacco as I’m a relative new comer to the world of pipe smoking having moved over from cigars. I am a bit of a puffer with a pipe which can cause problems with aromatics and certain types which get quite hot. This however I found a cool and satisfying smoke. I order a sample first as I wasn’t sure if it would be my cup of tea. On opening the pouch I was greeted with a a dark rope which almost resembled a large cigar in its thickness but squashed and more compressed. It has a smokey smell and also a slight vinegar smell (not unpleasant). I cut off a few slices which fell apart on the cutting board. I decided to break them apart by hand and then chopped the pipe into smaller pieces and began to pack my pipe. Once filled I realised I had packed it too tight for a sufficient draw and repacked again ensuring I had an easy draw through the pipe. I repacked about 3/4 of my original packing when reloading the pipe and lit it up. It took a bit longer than loose tobacco to light but when going it only required a few re-lights through the whole bowl. It is a smokey flavour which reminded me of a bbq and I don’t mean in a horrible way. It is a really nice smoke and gives you a really good nicotine hit. The after taste is not unpleasant and I was rather surprised how cool it smoked and no tongue burn. I was left with a fine powder at the end which I think is a good sign you get your money’s worth from a tobacco. If you have never tried a rope before I would recommend this as I have found it a very pleasant experience. The pipe used was a cob pipe which I use when smoking new types.
