JOSE L. PIEDRA

José L. Piedra is a particularly noteworthy Havana not only because its blend is composed of filler tobaccos grown exclusively in the Remedios tobacco region (formerly called Vuelta Arriba), but also because it is made using the ‘totalmente a mano, tripacorta’, or ‘totally hand made, short filler’ technique.

The Piedra family came to Cuba in the 1880s from the Spanish province of Asturias. They settled near the town of Santa Clara, which lies at the heart of the Remedios region where tobacco has been grown since the 16th Century, and started to make cigars.

The family’s second generation led by José Lamadrid Piedra, whose name is commemorated today, founded and developed the brand.

All of the José L. Piedra sizes are made from Remedios tobaccos using the traditional ‘tripa corta, totalmente a mano’ – short filler, totally handmade technique.

Tasting Notes

Well-made and also very good in the draw, this cigar carries rich, earthy aromas with rougher undertones. Always a pleasure to come back to these beauties.

First of all excellent packaging and very fast delivery, congrats c.gars. Now the cigar for me it was tight in the draw for the first half. Flavour was pleasant but nothing too complex and strength was a solid medium for me. Smoke time close to 45 minutes if you pace yourself. All and all an excellent daily smoke and given the price you cannot go wrong. Hadnt been for the tight draw this would get 5 stars but I suppose there is always next time.


I smoked this cigar as soon as it came through the post 2 days after order, very pleased with the dilivery time. As soon as i took the first puff of this cigar i knew it was a good one. In the 1st third there was a sweet grassy flavour, then it had a continues sweet creamy taste untill the end, took me 45 minuits to smoke and will be buying more, thank you c.gars. Clare.


I think this cigar is excellent value money. Yes it's a bit rough looking, and the band needs a makeover, but it has a good medium flavour, without bitterness. I like the size too. The smoke is more pleasing to the smoker than to the bystander, but that's as it should be! I would certainly buy again.


I have to disagree strongly with a lot of the reviews here. Those who say this is a tasteless or bland cigar must prefer the stronger Cubans or maybe darker/(richer) tobacco. I personally love these. They deliver a mild grassy flavour at first but by a third of the way through it starts to develop into a lovely medium, creamy, nutty and earthy flavour that continues right to the nub. These are also the perfect size if you're like me and prefer a strong cigar in a smaller package like a petit corona to corona vitola. The wrappers on these are rather scruffy but not too bad. You get what you pay for and they're certainly a contender for other similarly priced cigars. A great humidor filler and 50min to 1.15 hour smoke!


I have smoked 5 and found that 4 drew well and smoked evenly. No need for a powerful suck as they smoke fairly well. Flavour is average. My smoking environment is a large warm wooden chalet. After smoke aroma in chalet is less appealing than with Romeo's etc.

