HOYO DE MONETERREY

Hoyo de Monterrey owes its origin to the town of San Juan y Martinez, which lies at the heart of the Vuelta Abajo zone. Here the Hoyo de Monterrey plantation, one of the great Vegas de Primera, can be reached through a gate on the town's main square inscribed "Hoyo de Monterrey. Jose Gener. 1960."

"Hoyo" literally means "hole" and in this case describes the low-lying position of the plantation on the fertile banks of San Juan y Martinez river.  Jose Gener, a Spaniard from Tarragona, first used the name of his vega on a brand of Habanos in 1865.

The flavour of Hoyo de Monterrey's blend makes it an attractive choice for those who seek a delicate yet aromatic Habano that is lighter to the taste but with great elegance and complexity.

The brand is renowned for its Double Corona and for the prestigious Epicure series, the No.1 and No.2, to which the longer Epicure Especial was added in 2008. There is also a range of vitolas known as the Le Hoyo Series. These are generally accepted to be slightly stronger and spicier than the brand’s classic range.

All sizes are ‘tripalarga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade using filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo tobacco zone.

LE HOYO DE SAN JUAN

San Juan y Martinez is a small town in Vuelta Abajo (the main source of tobacco for Habanos) and the inspiration behind the name of this cigar. All of the Seco and Ligero leaves used in the blend are taken from the surrounding plantations.

Tasting Notes

The heavy ring gauge cigars joining the Le Hoyo range not only take its name from this district but also only use Seco and Ligero leaves in the blend that are grown there which gives the cigars a rich finish whilst maintaining a refined light aroma that is a character of the Hoyo de Monterrey brand.

Striking a balance of sweet and savory, this dark cigar delivers notes of sea salt, leather, peanut and chocolate before a big, nougat note brings it together for a Snickers bar finish..."

Ok so I got two of these my friend had one and his was fine, I maybe just got a bad one, unfortunately the draw was impossible to work with was so tight, I had to poke holes in it with a cocktail stick to open it up, when it did draw it was grey feet creamy nice cigar but mine was so tight I ended up taking more off the cap which then had the wrapper unwrapping, overall it was a bit fi a disappointment and I wouldn’t risk buying again, my friend said it was good however and his did seem to look and burn fine, luck of the draw

First let me thank Hoyo de Monterrey and (Cuban people) so much for this unique cigar. mild body, the draw, burn, and constrection are amazing. Varied bouquet of Flavors, aromas, and after tastes.. Such as: earthy, grassy, Barley, sun, salty, Dried prunes, and milky smoke. I will make sure keeps a large number of these fancy sticks in my cigar humidors. Thank you so much C.GARS , Michelle Adler for all excellent choices and services. ✨

Where can I start about this cigar? I could wax lyrical about the coffee and cream taste and the perfect fill and the delightful colour of the wrapper etc etc but it is much easier to say that since reading that this new ring gauge stick was to be added to the HDM range, I grew excited. I like the larger gauge and love HDMs, so add them together and I was champing at the bit. When C.Gars announced that they now had them in stock I ordered on the first day. I will just say that this cigar has gone straight to the top of my personal hit-list. Magnificent, with subtle changes right down to the final 1/5th. Highly, seriously recommended Like an angel crying on your tongue.
