Alberto and Alejandro Turrent, owners of Nueva Matacapan de Tabacos S.A. de C.V, are the first family of Mexico’s cigar industry. The father-son team not only makes some of Mexico’s best cigars but are also the largest grower of cigar tobacco in the country. The San Andres Maduro leaf they grow outside of Veracruz is world renowned for its quality, and a variety of their tobaccos are important components in many of America’s most popular premium cigar brands.

To keep the consistency of their flagship Casa Turrent line, Alejandro decided a large factory was not the best place to make the more complex Casa series. In June, Alejandro took his great-grandfather’s house and renovated it to make a boutique factory with 15 people to produce the Casa Turrent series.

Tasting Notes

Named for the birth year of Alejandro Turrent, this cigar uses a criollo wrapper from San Andres , with a Nicaragua nbinder and a filler blend of Criollo San Andres and Nicaraguan tobacco. This creates a medium bodied cigar that is smooth & rich in sweetness.

Lovely stick, nice looking wrapper and label as well, nice aroma and nutty taste with great all round construction.

Im quite pleasantly surprised by this cigar. I dont want the extra points for saying this but Im glad I got a subscription box and have forced myself to try new things. It lights easy, has an even burn and fairly light draw but produces lots of smoke. Theres not much change in the flavour profile of the cigar , where it was quite woody and sweet, other than in the final third where the taste of pepper and leather with nuts come into play and quite full in terms of flavour, although the subtle sweetness remains the same. I will be putting this on my future to buy list.
