VEGAS ROBAINA

Since 1845 the Robaina family has farmed tobacco continuously on its precious vegas (fields) at Cuchillas de Barbacoa situated in the San Luis district of the Vuelta Abajo tobacco zone.

Vegas Robaina cigars were introduced in 1997 as a tribute to Cuban tobacco farmers through the figurehead of Don Alejandro Robaina whose reputation in his day for producing the finest wrapper leaves was legendary. In effect the brand honours all the anonymous tobacco growers whose knowledge and skill make Havanas what they are today.

All of the medium to full flavoured Vegas Robaina vitolas are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade.

FAMOSOS

A sturdy shape, a shade longer yet slightly thinner than a robusto, that draws well. It is considered by many to be the brand's outstanding vitola.

Tasting Notes

Complex sweet and woody flavours. Very spicy in the final third make for a great tasting cigar. Both draw and construction are excellent. The Famosos are an elegant and manly cigar.

91 / 100

"A tightly packed head results in a firm draw, but the cigar burns slow and cool, showing a solid backbone of coffee, salt and spice. A big note graham cracker emerges and lingers on the finish..."

A beautifully balanced cigar with rich, earthy flavors and a hint of sweetness. The draw is smooth, and the construction is impeccable. It's a medium to full-bodied smoke that I thoroughly enjoyed from start to finish. Definately buying againn!

Wow, lovely cigar. Took a while to get going but it was simply delicious through to the very end. Full (not strong) but sweet flavour throughout with the last third exceptional. If you can call a Cuban these days a bargain then this is one of them

Definitely a firm draw with this cigar, which can be off putting for me at first. I stuck with it and grew to really enjoy this cigar. I smoked it on a breezy night on holiday - other cigars would have burned away quickly. The breeze had no effect whatsoever on this baby. Paired with an oaky red Rioja followed by a very smooth rum. Lovely rich woody, leathery smoke that I took my time with. Burn was slow and even and I grew to really like it. Recommend you put it down and leave a good minute between draws in the initial phase. Didn’t need any relights. Would say best as an after dinner smoke. Strong earthy and complex. Came as a sampler set of Cuban Robustos from C Gars. My final thought is that this is cigar not to rush. Take your time and the magic will unfold. The last third definitely gets interesting in the spice department and the flavour really develops. Things were getting better where other cigars are getting a bit stale. It’s the best final third in a while. I didn’t want it to end. It has left me intrigued and feeling safe in the knowledge that Cubans are always full of surprises.

One of my favourites and first Havana box I ever bought. Perfect construction and amazing experience. Perfect alternative to Montecristo lovers. Espresso notes, woody, smooth, oaky and leathery. A classic Habana. David - C.Gars Ltd Cigar Ambassador

This had great potential looked great from the outside, cut cleanly but a prelighting drawn immediately warned me how tight the cigar was. I can not say that I again disappointed at the quality control of Cuban cigars over those from the New World. I prefer Cubans but they are hit and miss and at the current prices that it is fair risk. When I did achieve a decent mouthful of smoke this cigar was great but so hard to smoke. Cuba needs to raise its game and become more consistent, the products are great BUT expensive and when you spend this sort of money perfection is not an unreasonable expectation, especially from an EMS cigar. Hunters & Frankau take note. I bought two Ramon Allones Specially Selected in St Tropez and they were excellent which begs the question as to whether the UK gets the best anymore.
