VEGAFINA

Hand-rolled at the famous Tabacalera de Garcia factory, VegaFina cigars are made from hand-selected Ecuadorian wrapper, an Indonesian binder and a combination of Dominican, Colombian and Honduran long-filler tobaccos. This creates a distinctly smooth, aromatic blend with a light to medium body that is appreciated by cigar smokers across the world. 

Vegas Finas translates to 'finest fields' and refers to quality of the plantations producing these Dominican rolled cigars presented in dressed boxes, small packs and tubes.

I still remember the day I was at a BBQ and a friend handed me a VegaFina. I was fairly new to cigars at the time and had never heard of the brand. That one cigar changed things rather quickly. VegaFina went straight onto my favourites list and, having worked my way through a frankly irresponsible number of them since, I am yet to have a bad one. The 1998 is a particularly good example of why I rate the brand so highly. The draw is excellent, the burn behaves itself and the flavour is rich, woody and slightly sweet without ever becoming heavy. It produces a lovely amount of smoke and has enough character to keep you interested without demanding your full concentration like some overexcited dinner guest. For me this cigar absolutely loves a V cut. It opens the draw beautifully and seems to let the sweeter and woodier flavours come through without making things too loose. And of course, 1998 is widely regarded by absolutely nobody with any scientific authority as roughly the peak of human civilisation, so naming a cigar after it was always going to set expectations rather high. Fortunately, this one delivers. A solid cigar from a very dependable brand and a shining example of what a good cigar should be. Easy to enjoy, full of flavour and reliably excellent. VegaFina remains one of those brands I can reach for without having to think about it, which is perhaps the highest compliment of all.

