H. UPMANN

H. Upmann is one of the oldest cigar brands in existence, dating back to the 1840s. It was started when Herman Upmann quit his job as a banker in the early 1840’s and went about opening up a branch office in Havana. Upmann quickly realised that he could begin a commercial endeavour in the industry and in 1844 he made the bold investment of a cigar factory and the H. Upmann brand was officially launched.

Later on in 1922, both the Upmann bank and the cigar business went bankrupt and they had to sell up to J. Frankau & Co., a British firm who continued the production of the cigars up until 1935 at which point the brand was sold on again to the recently established Menendez y Garcia Co., the makers of the famous Montecristo cigar. The new owners continued the production of H. Upmann cigars up until the nationalisation of the tobacco industry after the Cuban revolution.

H. Upmann's blend is composed exclusively of filler and binder tobaccos grown in the Vuelta Abajo zone and all H. Upmann sizes are ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade.

Gold medals in no less than eleven international exhibitions during the 19th Century can be found on the brand's labelled boxes.

REGALIAS

A tasty mareva with plenty of charm, the Regalias is part of the La Linea Retro and is presented in tins of five. These pocket cigar cases have been inspired by those much in vogue during the 1970's.

Tasting Notes

93 / 100

"Despite its size, the smoke packs a punch, saturating the palate with notes of peppercorn, leather and spices. Intermittent undertones of almonds and dried flowers segue into a peppery finish. The even burn and lush draw form a flaky gray ash..."

It was a bit of a tight draw but a really smooth smoke with just a small amount of spice. It took me 70 minutes to smoke this all the way to the nub with no issues at all. Its an anytime of day smoke for anyone. Will keep a few in my humidor for sure.

Well this has sat in my humidor for over 3 months. The sun is out and I thought why not enjoy a Cuban today. Well worth the wait, I like to let the Cubans sit a little longer in my humidor, just personal preference. Very nice flavours, nothing harsh, good amount of smoke. Even burn until just before the band so a little touch up sorted that. I like to enjoy a Cuban every now and again and I would smoke cigars in and around the £10 range once or twice through the week. You really can notice the difference, dont get me wrong some of those cheaper cigars are better than other Cubans i have had. But I do like a nice H upmann once in a while. If you dont treat yourself who will. Definitely worth having a few in your humidor.

Light smoke, but with perfect burn. Floral, spicy and peppery. A bit too peppery for my taste.
