Nikka Yoichi NAS Single Malt Japanese Whisky - 45% 70cl
Relaunched in 2016 comes a no age statement single malt produced by the amazing Yoichi Distillery, the first distillery established by Nikka in 1934.
This whisky is blend of various single malts from different years thus making this stunning Nikka a No Age Statement Whisky!
The Yoichi Distillery is one of Nikka’s two malt distilleries, it uses imported Scottish peat, and distills on old-school coal-fired stills.
Nikka formerly sold 10-year-old to 20-year-old Yoichi, but has discontinued them all in favour of this 45% ABV NAS.
Overall a good well balanced dram. Fruit, peat, spice, sweet and nice it hits many of the right notes.
Nikka Miyagikyo NAS Single Malt Japanese Whisky - 70cl 45%
Miyagikyo Single Malt is a range of single malt expressions from the Miyagikyo Distillery.
Nikka's founder Masataka Taketsuru chose a valley in the Miyagi prefecture as the site for his second distillery, and started its operation in 1969.
He aimed to make a complete contrast between the two distilleries, Miyagikyo and Yoichi, with different natural environments and production methods.
Miyagikyo malts are described as elegant and fruity. Made from light peated and non-peated malted barley, whiskies distilled in pot stills heated by indirect steam express a signature fruitiness and delicate mouthfeel.
At Miyagikyo, the different natural environment and the use of steam heat distillation results in a malt whisky with a different character from that of Yoichi.
This no-age-statement version was released in 2016 as a permanent product that showcases the elegant style of Miyagikyo malts, when all age-statements were discontinued.
This bottling has estery aromas generated by carefully selected yeast strains along with distinctive Sherry cask influence.
Nikka Yoichi NAS Single Malt Japanese Whisky - 45% 70cl
Nose: Full-bodied, smooth. A mellow peat softly coats the aromatic palette at first, growing more powerful with time, as smoke, soot and salty notes transcend the initial nose.
Palate: Firm, powerful. A well-balanced attack gives equal footing to aromas of peat, smoke, spices, fresh fruit and nuts, which it delivers in spades. The mid-palate starts off with chocolate notes, but the peat soon takes the lead once again.
Finish: Long, silky. Extremely mature, it overflows with ripe fruit.The peat starts taking on an herbaceous and malty character, while the salty flavours gives the finish plenty of depth and coastal freshness. The final nose offers menthol, spicy and earthy notes.

This single malt whisky features a sweet and elegant fragrance like fresh flowers, combined with a soft maltiness and a delicate, gentle and appealing mature essence derived from sherry casks.
