SAN CRISTOBAL

San Cristóbal de la Habana was the original name of Havana, Cuba’s capital city, when it was founded in 1519; San Cristóbal (St Christoper) in honour of Columbus and La Habana after an Indian name for the site.

San Cristóbal de la Habana cigars were introduced in 1999 on the threshold of the new Millennium as a tribute to the city’s long history.

At first the range comprised four vitolas, each named after one of the fortresses that defended Havana when it was the hub of Spain’s American empire. These are: El Morro, La Fuerza, La Punta and El Principe.

In 2004, three new sizes were added, which are unique to San Cristóbal. These are named after well-known streets in Havana’s 17th century Old Town: Muralla, Mercederes and Oficios. However, all of these have since been discontinued and, while some may still be found in UK shops, the range in current production stands at three vitolas.

All San Cristóbal’s vitolas are ‘Tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade to a light to medium flavoured blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo tobacco zone.

El PRINCIPE

A wonderful versatile small cigar with a delicious elegance to its taste. Perfect to accompany a pre-dinner glass of champagne or to keep with ou for those brief occasions when there's only just time for a good cigar.

Tasting Notes

An ideal pre dinner smoke. Brief, not too heavy with a nice even burn.

"...Though attractively pressed with an oily wrapper and three-seam cap, the draw of this little cigar is notably firm. Wood and leathery notes turn sharp and perfumey..."

Very tasty little stick. Mild with some sweetness. Major issue was how very tight the draw was. Lost patience after half of the cigar. Fingers crossed it was a one off problem as the cigar is worth a smoke if not for the draw issues

Bought two of these to try. They were both so tightly wrapped that neither of us could get a draw so getting it lit was even hard. Tried rolling it to see if that made a difference, it didn't. I then chopped the cigar further up to see if that would allow us to get a draw, it didn't. It was totally unsmokable. What a disappointment. I returned inside with my friend to my humidor and we selected another cigar each which we both enjoyed. So glad I didn't buy a box if they were all like this.

Outstanding, thoroughly enjoyed this cigar! One of the most enjoyable smokes i have had in a long time. The aroma was inviting, held ash very well and the draw was excellent. I was left wanting more. I will be adding these to the wish list. Definitely worth a punt, for those who enjoy R&J, Monte, etc and want to try different Cuban but still savour the subtle flavours. i am no connoisseur by any stretch, i paired this with a cup of coffee and a cheeky light rum afterwards and all the flavours married up beautifully.

Tried one of these today and thoroughly enjoyed it. Really nice flow, draw. I love cigars that have a nice easy draw and this was fantastic. Definitely adding this to my regulars.

I was reluctant to write a review, as a novice. Yet, this little one makes it easy. Good, clear draw throughout, medium yet embodied taste, quality wrap; a very nice 30-40 minute smoke, right to the end. Taste varies towards the end, more earthy and ash, still enjoyed it.
