ROMEO Y JULIETA

Named after William Shakespeare’s tragic lovers, the origins of Romeo y Julieta as a Havana date back to 1875.

The brand rose to international fame during the early years of the 20th Century under the direction of Don ‘Pepin’ Rodriguez, a talented promoter who was amongst the first to recognise the power of the cigar band. During his heyday no less than 20,000 different bands were used in the production of cigars.

Winston Churchill became a devotee of the brand and following his visit to Havana in 1946, his name has not only been commemorated on a band, but it has also served to describe the marque’s most famous size – Romeo y Julieta Churchills.

Romeo y Julieta’s balanced and aromatic blend of selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone make it the classic medium bodied Havana.

Today Romeo y Julieta is as well known around the world as ever and offers one of the widest range of tripa larga, totalmente a mano – long filler, totally handmade – sizes of any Havana brand.

PETIT CHURCHILL

2012 saw the arrival of the fourth of Romeo's famous Churchill line. Petit Churchills, joining the original, Short and Wide Churchills to offer a range of heavy girth vitolas for all occasions.

Tasting Notes

90 / 100

"Amidst a floral, woody smoke, a nutty note of almond emerges with some clarity. Hints of nutmeg and graham cracker follow before the slightly leathery finish. The draw and burn are excellent..."

I did not purchase this cigar from C. Gars as a longer version was gifted to me, the experience is my own and was enjoyable. This review will be posted on the other Churchill bands as the flavour remains the same but the cigar band is the only thing that differs. The Romeo y Julieta Churchill is one of those cigars that instantly feels special from the moment you pick it up. For someone like me still building experience, this cigar set a new benchmark for what a refined, classic Cuban should deliver. It’s beautifully constructed—firm, smooth, and fragrant before lighting. On the cold draw, I got soft notes of cedar, earth, and a hint of sweetness. Once lit, the first third opened with that signature Romeo y Julieta creaminess, layered with mild spice and wood. The smoke was smooth and aromatic, never harsh, and the draw was perfectly balanced. As it developed, gentle floral and nutty tones appeared, with moments of cocoa and toasted almond weaving in. The burn line was impressively even throughout, showing the kind of craftsmanship the brand is known for. By the final third, the flavors deepened but stayed elegant—more earth, spice, and roasted coffee, finishing on a creamy, satisfying note. The overall experience felt timeless and balanced from start to finish. The Churchill isn’t just a cigar—it’s an education in smoothness and structure. For me, it’s one of the most complete Cubans I’ve tried so far: refined, aromatic, and deeply enjoyable. Rating: 9/10

Pretty much my go-to in the stronger category. I do like my smokes relatively light and creamy so knew it wasnt that, but it didnt feel like a huge jump (it is a bit creamy, and a its a nice change of pace when I want something stronger. Takes me about 40 mins, longer Im good company, of course.

Smoked a few of these, nice cedar and cherry flavours. Good burn for a Cuban and a nice draw.

Picked up two in Frankfurt. Smoked one a couple of days later and was disappointed. Very bland most of the way through, draw was far too easy, possibly rolled a little too loose. Flavour picked up towards the end but it was too weak and burned too quickly for my liking. I’ve got the other sitting in a humidor and will see if a spell in there improves the flavour. For a smoke this short, I expect much more in the way of flavour.

Unimpressed to be frank, normal love a Romeo but this burnt uneven, tasted harsh st the start and with the length didn’t get much to enjoy. Tail end was ok but can’t help but think more length is required for this to be enjoyable
