Named after William Shakespeare's tragic lovers, the origins of Romeo y Julieta as a Habano date back to 1875.

The brand rose to international fame during the early years of the 20th Century under the direction of Don 'Pepin' Rodriguez, a talented promoter, who was amongst the first to recognise the power of the cigar band. During his hey day no less than 20,000 different bands were used in production.

Winston Churchill became a devotee of the brand. Following his visit to Havana in 1946, his name has not only been commemorated on a band but it has also served to describe the marque's most famous size - Romeo y Julieta Churchill.

The 21st century has seen the arrival of two additional sizes using the name. The first called Short Churchill, a robusto size that had been missing from the range, was added in 2006. The second launched as the 21st Festival del Habano in 2010, was Wide Churchills, which boasts a 55 ring gauge to mark the trend amongst enthusiasts for stouter girth vitolas.

Romeo y Julieta's balanced and aromatic blend of selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone make it the classic medium bodied Habano.

Today Romeo y Julieta is well known around the world as ever and offers the widest range of long filler sizes in any Habano brand.

Tasting Notes

The aroma is beautiful, and the construction and burn were flawless. The intoxicating and decadent vanilla and cream combination is the most unforgettable. One hell of a smoke.

"...Sweet and fruity with notes of coconut and cedar. There's an earthy undertone as well, but the smoke is a bit thin from the firm draw..."

I think this is my 5th Cuban now. As a relatively new and young cigar smoker I was recommended to be wary of moving up to a Churchill so soon, after starting with robustos and coronas but I was desperate to try one, especially a Cuban so the team recommended this! WasnÂ’t disappointed!! Nice smooth smoke and a mild taste. Burned really evenly and lasted a good 90 mins! Perfect for a nice dry night! Will definitely be trying it again!

I bought a pack of 3 of these back in January this year along with a 3 pack of MonteCristo to top up my humour. I had recently finished a job lot of Cohibas that I had bought while on holiday last year, and I just wanted to try a couple of different brands to see if there was one I liked more than another. Of the 3 brands, I would say that the Romeo y Julieta had the smoothest smoke of them all with a good even burn. Id definitely buy more of these again.

Absolutely loved this cigar. Nice rich smoke, flavourful and well built. I first purchased a box of 3 from an airport. Finding them in a box of 25 was too much to resist. Definitely recommend.

I was really looking forward to this cigar. The look, the smell the size. I li it and the burn was good. Flavour was subtle. Smoked nicely for 10 minutes then the wrapper started to unravel right to the band. Not what I was expecting at all with a cigar with this name written on it. I think if the wrapper stayed on it might of been a nice cigar. It has definitely put me off buying the bigger cigars being that the construction on this was sloppy.

Tonight I smoke the Romeo y Julieta Churchill which featured a nice triple cap and a firm even pack however little squishy at the foot other than that construction looks great with a lovely smooth wrapper with hardly any tooth and lovely tight seems the aroma of this stick is a nice honey and dry hay. Wow what a cigar is all I can say from first light, amazing draw just a slight resistance and lots of lovely thick smoke, flavour wise lots of sweet desert like notes such as honey and almost a summer fruit sort of flavour, on the finish a really nice dried hay which is lasting well into the next draw 37 min in still lovely smoke output ash fell off in a solid chunk about an inch at a time which was a shame but other than that great burn line and the smoke is still nice and cool probably due to the size and distance the smoke has to travel. flavour wise slight pepper spice on the draw with a nice toasty coffee note lurking around the main flavours however is still that fruity floral note and the dry hay there's also a slight woody note coming through but it's not a ceder more like an oakey flavour the last few draws while writing this, there's also been a nice but very subtle caramel on the draw so far a real joy to smoke. One hour twenty minuets in and entering final third the ash has been very flakey and not holding well also the cigar has gone very bitter now so hard to pick any draw flavours out, probably a young cigar which is a real shame as I was really enjoying the flavours coming out from the stick however overall I think it's a lovely cigar with lots of ageing potential and I would defiantly recommend this cigar or buying a box and leaving them to sit in a humidor to allow the tabbaco to settle.
