ROMEO Y JULIETA

Named after William Shakespeare’s tragic lovers, the origins of Romeo y Julieta as a Havana date back to 1875.

The brand rose to international fame during the early years of the 20th Century under the direction of Don ‘Pepin’ Rodriguez, a talented promoter who was amongst the first to recognise the power of the cigar band. During his heyday no less than 20,000 different bands were used in the production of cigars.

Winston Churchill became a devotee of the brand and following his visit to Havana in 1946, his name has not only been commemorated on a band, but it has also served to describe the marque’s most famous size – Romeo y Julieta Churchills.

Romeo y Julieta’s balanced and aromatic blend of selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone make it the classic medium bodied Havana.

Today Romeo y Julieta is as well known around the world as ever and offers one of the widest range of tripa larga, totalmente a mano – long filler, totally handmade – sizes of any Havana brand.

BELICOSO

Not a size or shape that is widely associated with Romeo, but it has been around for decades offering a reliable, easy drawing passport to the brand's elegant, medium-bodied taste.

Tasting Notes

Good construction and burn. Earthy and woody notes, with hints of sweet honey and pepper. A truly exquisite delight.

----

94 / 100

"The tight draw of this belicoso delivers a primarily cedary smoke with hints of walnuts, a slight, sugar-cookie sweetness and a tangy finish..."

As a fan of R&J I tend to like their cigars almost instantly. Yet, something is missing from this one. The flavour is somehow held back and the notes of fruit and spice are not at all powerful. I found it too light for its own good. written by Mihai

Had one of these at a party tonight and have to admit was a little disappointed. It lit easily and with great promise, and that was as good as it got. The draw was very difficult and it immediately began to burn unevenly, and the rich combination of creamy and woody flavours I had experienced in my first few R&Js was conspicous by its absence. I would rate myself as a novice smoker, but I do try to be objective about the cigars that I try, and this Im afraid just didnt make the grade. Im giving this particular stick a 2, although I know RJs are generally worth more than that. Maybe these would be better in the daytime. written by David Mervin GBR
