Trinidad Coloniales Cigar - 1 Single
Date Added: Tuesday 22 June, 2010
The cigar looks amazing, with its beautiful dark wrapper, oily sheen and a Trinidad gold banding which is always nice on the eyes! Draw was a little difficult as tobacco was fairly tightly packed, with medium amount of smoke, certainly not as much (with a not as easy draw) as the Robusto T or even the Reyes. Still, the taste was more spicey than the Robusto (though less creamy), and more deep richer than the Reyes. Roasted taste intensified during the second third of the cigar, with hints of sweetness found. Ash has started off uneven, but did level off after an inch, with the ash lasting around1 1/2 inches until falling. Dark grey ash, again not as smooth as the Montecristo No. 2, but smoother than the Robusto T and Reyes, with white star-like nodules present (similar to the Reyes). Apart from the size, which is modest, though not one I would prefer, the taste and look of the cigar was first class. I am very harsh when I score any cigar (remember 4-5 is excellent, 3 is middle of the road, with 1-2 as not so good), but 4/5 is very good. Not bad price for a Cuban Trinidad,

Luis Martinez Tres Petit Corona - 1 Single

Nicely made, good aroma, perfect draw, but too strong for my taste. I expect that those who like a good strong cigar will find this a very enjoyable smoke, at a very reasonable price.

Not as strong as expected, which suits me. Excellent if medium strong and quite nutty is your taste.

H. Upmann Magnum 50 Cigar - 1 Single
Date Added: Tuesday 01 June, 2010
A friend of mine, who is far more of a cigar connoisseur then I, told me that this is one of his all time favourite cigars. To an extent I can see why. It is a good manly looking size but won't quite take the commitment that a double corona or churchill might take. It has a good dominant flavour whilst not being too strong. For me the underlying taste notes were rich coffee beans in a cloth sack and probably would make a fine companion to oily dark expresso. For me though there was perhaps a little too much of the bitterness/sourness in this cigar which many others may like, but it is the only reason why this cigar for me does not have 5 stars. I acknowledge the fact however that I have a habit of making this last comment about some cigars because I smoke them too 'young' and will be the first one to edit or re-write this review once I have aged the Magnum 50's for a little longer... I am certain that should you like the bitterness of rich dark coffee's then ths cigar will match up just perfectly for you.

Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial Cigar - Box of 10
Date Added: Tuesday 01 June, 2010
At my first try of one of these I felt disappointed...probably because I was expecting more intense flavour from a name like Epicure Especial. However my first impression was wrong. I have just taken the time to try one of these again and approached it this time with a more open mind... I think the first time I was especting a punch in the mouth of flavour while not remembering that this after all was a Hoyo. Hoyo are more of a light to medium flavoured cigar and this one is no exception. The Epicure is a very smooth cigar, there is no bitterness here, for what is quite a young cigar. It has definite old but light tanned leather undertones coupled with what recognise as a taste of a subtle honey blossom, great for a english summer afternoon smoke. This is an easy smoke, a real relaxer, rather then a smack in the mouth of flavour... And now I have let my Epicure lay for a short time I am convinced they will probably just get better with age.

Bolivar Belicosos Finos Cigar - 1 Single
Date Added: Friday 28 May, 2010
I decided on one of these based on the reviews below, as a late substitute for a Unicos in my Vegas Robaina sampler pack (Cgars didn't have any Unicos left!) & I'm glad I choose this fine fat fellow. Nothing more to add that hasn't been already said, except halfway through smoking it, it did start to leave a thin line of wrapper behind the burn. It didn't seem to affect the flavour at all as it still smoked beautifully, full of strong, woody, leathery flavours. This is everything a cigar should be... especially at the price! 10/10
