Arturo Fuente Opus X Perfection No. 5 Cigar - 1 Single
Date Added: Monday 06 June, 2016
I'm somewhat inexperienced with Non-Cubans but recently tried an Arturo Fuente Don Carlos No. 3 and was amazed at its flavour. So reading up on Fuente I had to try the Opus X range seeing as it has such a great reputation. Well, I know I should have left this for a year or more in my humidor but I also bought a couple of larger size Opus Xs so I thought I'd give it a go, young as it is. Got to tell you I'm glad I did. This is one great cigar. Very rich honey & wood flavours. Quite sweet at times with a fair bit of strength. Draw was perfect but burn needed a little help at times. Probably not for beginners but it depends on how you like your cigar. I'm probably an intermediate level smoker and I'm quickly finding out that I like my cigars as I like my whisky. Richly sweet and flavoursome like a Laphroaig 18 yr old. I can only imagine what a bit of time would add to this cigar. Its already stunning.

Oliva Serie G Cameroon Cigar - Tin of 5
Date Added: Saturday 04 June, 2016
I have become an Oliva fan when it comes to new-world cigars and when I went looking for a cheap but a good hand made cigar, seeing these seemed the one to fit the bill. Been in the humidor for almost three days I thought to sample my first one, well sadly not the best. Quite dry which I hope is due to not being in the humidor for very long, but taste was similiar to other Oliva cinnamon with coffee notes I picked up on but really was too dry on the mouth to really appreciate the flavors I like so much from Oliva. I will re-review if the I believe 3 stars is too harsh, so fingers crossed.

Montecristo No. 5 Cigar - 1 Single

Reviewed by Joe Gellman I finished breakfast and had a half cup (we use the French cups, you know, the ones you use two hands to hold) of Cubita coffee left and decided to go to the terrace (actually, a deck over the garage where I do most of my smoking) and finish the coffee and smoke a No. 5. The cigar measures 4" x 40 (mine measured 4" x 41 and though it has been described as having a ring gauge of 40 or 42, I find this to be part of the manner of storage. I will buy a few at the factory in Cuba next October and measure them to try my hypothesis) and is a mighty little might, when aged properly (as this was, thank you, C.GARS Ltd) I get a kick out of the oft overused tripe that this vitola is the brand's poorest make. Well, it that is true, all the vitolas are of my liking, the poorest still good enough for my tastes. I found the cigar to be as full bodied as the No. 4 and a tad fuller than the No. 3 corona. It lit well and burned evenly to the last. This is a quick smoke, though I lingered with it and the last of the coffee for 25 minutes. As with the Joyitas, the ash wa

Montecristo No. 4 Cigar - 1 Single

Reviewed by Brent Metcalfe ( November 2000) It was a rainy, fall day when the Cubans arrived at my door. As I unwrapped the complex packaging, I was struck with that 'anticipation' feeling of wondering what cigar I was going to receive. I reached into the box and to my delight withdrew a cigar band that was noticeable to anyone who smokes cigars. I'm referring to the Montecristo band, except this one with the Habana label! The wrapping was perfect with no visible veins or scarring of any kind and had a visible oily hue. It is one of those cigars that the smell (unlit, of course) is enough to start the salivary glands going. In my haste, I couldn't wait to try one. I did however wait until after I had a nice non-filling dinner to fully appreciate the 'afterglow' of the evening. The Montecristo #4 (5", 42 ring), lit fairly easy. I struggled with the draw though, and attempted to alter my cut just enough to give me a little more. I ran the cigar along my fingers and noted that the foot of the cigar was rolled a little tight, hence, the difficult draw. The flavor however, was just

Reviewed by Mihai - Box Date: September 2002 This review, I'm glad to say, is not based on old tasting notes, nor is it conceived with the proverbial popularity of this cigar in mind. I am writing it while smoking the cigar this sunny afternoon in my garden. This is why the review is written in the present tense. So here it goes: Year of manufacture: 2002 (September) Wrapper colour: Colorado (aka English Market Selection). In concrete terms, the colour is that of coffee with a touch of milk. Appearance: smooth wrapper with very few, unobtrusive veins. After four months in the humidor, it feels slightly oily to the touch with a healthy sheen. Unlit, it carries the bouquet of wood and sweet vanilla. Construction: uniform, no hard or weak spots, with brilliant draw all the way. Its burn is reasonably even (not perfect, though). The wrapper and binder seem to burn slightly faster than the filler. Flavour/taste: the dominant notes are clearly earth mixed with fresh wood and spice. A touch of salty weed. Its strength is, to me, on the fuller side of medium. Aroma: roasted
