Traditional flat tin, easy to load the bowl and excellent cool smoke, and does not die after a moment or two without a puff

For an Islay, mid peaty and decent mid heavy taste. It's not as tarry as caol ila, and on the sweet side. A good session whisky, one I'll happily drink all might

Samuel Gawith Cob Plug Pipe Tobacco Loose
Date Added: Friday 08 February, 2019
I love the SG 1872 Flake and when I saw that this was the plug version I was keen to try it out. Out of the bag it has an incredibly strong smell of alcohol, it really does punch the nostrils with a full fist, so I was looking forward to this coming through in the taste. I cut some into cubes, allowed them to dry for three hours and then filled a bowl. Sadly there was no flavour of alcohol at all in the smoke, there was not a lot of flavour at all. The strong, rich, full bodied tobacco taste that was so prevalent in the 1872 Flake was toned down. There was quite a strong peppery flavour, Ill assume its perique and the slightly sweet note of vanilla that was in the back end of the 1872 Flake was also missing. It wasnt flat out awful, it simply made for a rather boring smoke. There was no tongue bite at all with this and it was certainly a very slow burning tobacco, I only sampled a small amount, about a third of a bowl, and this burned for 30 minutes. Given I sampled an explosion of flavours with the SG Cannon Plug the previous day, this one sadly left me extremely disappointed.

San Cristobal La Punta Cigar - 1 Single
Date Added: Thursday 07 February, 2019
Delicious after a light lunch. I hadnt tried a La Punta for years, so sampled one at Turmeaus lounge. Well aged and covered in bloom over its light and slightly rustic wrapper. The draw was easy with just a little resistance, but the smoke remained cool and delicious with a good burn. The first half was light-medium bodied and built up slightly in flavour also, with beautifully balanced waves of light roasted coffee, honey, toasted almond and soft pepper spice. The second half became much more medium bodied developing an oaky woodiness, dry grass and herbal notes with a small burst of spice at the end. Smoked it to my fingertips. Often overlooked, but these can be excellent and age beautifully.
