“If you close your eyes, it tastes like the Cubans I used to smoke 15 years ago.”
Larry Wagner, Tobacconist Magazine

REGIUS

Regius Cigars Ltd was founded in 2010 by a small group of cigar enthusiasts in London. They entered a partnership with the leading cigar manufacturers of Cuban descent, based in the northern mountains of Nicaragua, employing over 500 cigar rollers. They produce elegant, hand-made cigars the old fashioned way with modern technology and advanced, innovative cultural methods.

Since conception, Regius Cigars have been highly credited by the world’s leading cigar-related journals and commentators, particularly Cigar Aficianado Magazine which recently rated Regius in their top 25 cigar brands on sale in the USA.

Every Regius cigar is individually checked before leaving the factory ensuring consistency of draw and construction. The Regius blend has been particularly well received by a new generation of hand-made cigar aficionados who favour a smooth and easy, yet complex, smoke.

CONNECTICUT

Connecticut seed wrapper grown in the Talanga valley in Honduras. Most Connecticut wrappers are from Ecuador - they look nice but lack much of the depth and complexity needed in a premium cigar. In the US Connecticut cigars have a reputation for being very mild and boring yet inoffensive. This cigar was made to have complexity and flavour displaying the best out of the wrapper tobacco. More on that below.

Talanga wrapper because it exhibits the best of Connecticut seed Tobacco. The floral delicate tones, the creamy texture without the harshness or the finish of other varietals of Nicaraguan or much new world Tobacco. It has flavour without the acidity and sourness of other types of Connecticut tobacco.

It’s a Connecticut with flavour, not a cigar to smoke when you need something in your hand. I wanted people to smoke it and be surprised that a Connecticut cigar can have that much flavour and complexity and still be acceptable strength wise to the “usual” Connecticut smoker.

Really nice cigar with an easy draw and only lit it once for the whole of the burn. Left it in a small humidor ( little table top 30cigar effort) for three weeks and this may have helped as I didn’t have the problem of other reviewers had in that I gave it a full cut rather than a v cut and removed bands with no flakes or unwrapping. Will order again and keep bands on as I realise now this may have improved the flavour, I found it mellow and pleasant but not a robust taste so should be good for us new to cigars.

The flavour of this cigar is decent for the price, but the construction is awful. The first one was cracking on the wrapper as the tobacco expanded while I was smoking it, and the wrapper cracked again when I (carefully) removed the bands. I was kindly sent a replacement, but as soon as I cut the cap off, the shoulder peeled off with zero effort. A decent budget cigar, but I wouldn’t buy it again.

I am just getting back into cigars after many years away. This cigar gave me the perfect balance between usability and a most pleasant smoke. It lit well, had an easy draw, a wonderful aroma and taste. No idea how long it took to smoke because I was lost in the moment. Smoked the same all the way down. I'm too new to cigars to perhaps appreciate or notice the subtle change in flavours as it develops. However, my experience was one of joy. Now, a note on usability. This could well have been user error: I made a simple V cut and the end seemed loose. Indeed, in removing a stray flake of wrapper the whole thing unravelled and fell off. I don't know if the cigar was too dry or I'm simply an incompetent fool. Likely the latter. Having said that the cigar structure stayed firm. I opened up the draw end to a full cut. Maybe I missed out on the flavour the wrapper would've brought. And maybe the smoke would've lasted long, although it was long enough. Even so, my experience was not marred and I only want to further my journey. Cigar smoking is more than just smoking; you need to be involved in the process; it's a learning experience and a true respite from the stresses of life. Despite what I'll put down to my incompetence, I would definitely buy this cigar again - with a new double bladed cutter!

This was my first ever cigar, so i don't have anything to compare it to but it smoked good, not too strong to start with, it might have been a little long for the first time i didn't smoke past the ribbon but it could have been me. It was a pleasant time.

First off must say I was impressed with the look, feel and overall construction of this stick. Gave it a v-cut and tried the old cold draw, still can?t tease out flavour notes but it was quite pleasant, lol. The draw was easy throughout and the burn was razor sharp. Didn?t have a problem removing both bands and smoked right down to the nub, which is rare for me. Paired it with the Balvenie Caribbean Cask which went well. Definitely will be adding these to my collection.
