“If you close your eyes, it tastes like the Cubans I used to smoke 15 years ago.”
Larry Wagner, Tobacconist Magazine

REGIUS

Regius Cigars Ltd was founded in 2010 by a small group of cigar enthusiasts in London. They entered a partnership with the leading cigar manufacturers of Cuban descent, based in the northern mountains of Nicaragua, employing over 500 cigar rollers. They produce elegant, hand-made cigars the old fashioned way with modern technology and advanced, innovative cultural methods.

Since conception, Regius Cigars have been highly credited by the world’s leading cigar-related journals and commentators, particularly Cigar Aficianado Magazine which recently rated Regius in their top 25 cigar brands on sale in the USA.

Every Regius cigar is individually checked before leaving the factory ensuring consistency of draw and construction. The Regius blend has been particularly well received by a new generation of hand-made cigar aficionados who favour a smooth and easy, yet complex, smoke.

CONNECTICUT

Connecticut seed wrapper grown in the Talanga valley in Honduras. Most Connecticut wrappers are from Ecuador - they look nice but lack much of the depth and complexity needed in a premium cigar. In the US Connecticut cigars have a reputation for being very mild and boring yet inoffensive. This cigar was made to have complexity and flavour displaying the best out of the wrapper tobacco. More on that below.

Talanga wrapper because it exhibits the best of Connecticut seed Tobacco. The floral delicate tones, the creamy texture without the harshness or the finish of other varietals of Nicaraguan or much new world Tobacco. It has flavour without the acidity and sourness of other types of Connecticut tobacco.

It’s a Connecticut with flavour, not a cigar to smoke when you need something in your hand. I wanted people to smoke it and be surprised that a Connecticut cigar can have that much flavour and complexity and still be acceptable strength wise to the “usual” Connecticut smoker.

Overall it was a good smoke. 1st and 2nd part of the cigar was a nice pleasant taste, a hint of sweetness, bitterness (not over powering), pepper and slight spice. I find it better to taste the cigar if you keep the smoke in for a few seconds and breath out of the nose. This can be quite intense but I didn't find as intense. Only downside was when you take of the 2 bands, as they are stuck to the wrapper, the each band took a bit of the wrapper. Last 3rd of the cigar was just bitter. Would buy it again. So the rating is 4.

It's a good cigar considering its price. It can be considered a good options for those who cannot afford top of range cigars like Cubans or Davidoff.

This is my second review for this cigar. Smoked one a few weeks ago and my second, yesterday. I have to say I enjoyed it the first time around but the second go was far better. So consistency might not be the strong point or perhaps a few weeks in the humidor has made a big difference? Either way and whatever the reason, my second one of these was superb. No bitterness, even burn and a perfect draw. I didnt dislike it the first time around, the second was just considerably better. The flavours were mild but sufficient. Great cigar at a really fair price. 5 out of 5

Im currently trying a number of cheap cigars and this was part of my first order. I wasnt disappointed and its not something I would steer away from in the future. The cigar had a decent draw but didnt burn particularly evenly. It held the ash well and was an enjoyable smoke for around 20 minutes or so. Im no expert but I would have to describe the flavour as being fairly bitter. Not a necessarily a bad thing though and I cant really fault it at this price point. Ill happily have a few of these in my humidor. 4 out of 5 and something Ill order again.

Enjoyed this one on the morning! dog walk. Even burn, good draw, lasted about 25 mins, with slight sea breeze going on, held ash well. Pretty similar signature notes as the Robusto, (see review) , less cream & smoke. The cigar isnt going to light up the world, pun intended, but for the price it offers very good value for those who are on a budget and as such cant really fault it. Given the relatively small price difference between the corona and the robusto objectively I think the robusto offers best value.
