Rafael Gonzalez was created in the 1930's.

It was in this brand that the 6 1/2 inch by 42 gauge cigar, which has the factory name of Cervantes, was the first called a Lonsdale after Lord Lonsdale, the famous English sporting Earl and cigar aficionado of that period. Now many other brands use the name as well.

On its lid label each box carries a curious inscription written in English to the effect that the cigars should be smoked within one month of the date of shipment from Havana or otherwise they should be carefully matured for about one year.

Rafael Gonzalez cigars contain a light tasting blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone.

Tasting Notes

89 / 100

"...Despite the small size, this little tawny-coloured cigar has a voluminous draw that imparts a smoke loaded with oak and maple notes accentuated by black pepper and earthy carob..."

Better to buy a couple of premium cigars than 10 cheap that you don't really enjoy, cigars are like wine, you get what you pay for, Aim for a high enjoyment factor at least about 80% if you don't get above this value then move onto some thing else, finding your perfect cigar might take a week or could take you 10 years or more but the journey will be far more pleasant if you go first class rather than steerage, enjoy the trip, This cigar is exactly the same size as the Cohiba Siglo I and Monticristo No.5 The build quality is as good as a Romeo and the band is reminiscent of the Monticristo, This cigar is easy to light and cut and the draw is superb, Light taste in the first third of a pleasant flavour which I have not experienced before I can only describe it has Hay the aroma is very nice and my partner likes the smell so that must be a good sign, Into the second third and still mild to medium and still hay with a bit of citrus, the burn is good and still enjoying this cigar, Coming into the final third and mild to medium and a touch of pepper now but not hot the aroma now is reminiscent of a D4 and the strength is picking up to medium, Nubbing this cigar is truly superb and would highly recommend these cigars for at least a 45 mins pub smoke mine lasted exactly 1 hour, this is a real unknown gem of a Cuban cigar and must be tried to be appreciated

Lovely creamy taste throughout, great mild smoke perfect for a 20 minute coffee break, great draw and nice even burn throughout. All together a great little smoke when time is an issue
