RAFAEL GONZALEZ

Rafael González was created in the 1930’s and its cigars contain a light tasting blend of filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone.

It was in this brand that the 6 1/2 inch by 42 gauge cigar, which has the factory name of Cervantes, was the first called a Lonsdale after Lord Lonsdale, the famous English sporting Earl and cigar aficionado of that period. Now many other brands use the name as well.

On its lid label each box carries a curious inscription written in English to the effect that the cigars should be smoked within one month of the date of shipment from Havana or otherwise they should be carefully matured for about one year.

All sizes are made by the ‘tripa larga, totalmente a mano’ – long filler, totally handmade technique.

CORONAS DE LONSDALES

Despite the name, the size of this delightful addition to the Rafael Gonzalez range is neither a Corona or a Lonsdale. It is a Hermoso No.4 which measures 5” (127mm) x 48 ring gauge and joins other classic Habanos of this size such as the El Rey del Mundo Choix Supreme, Vegas Robaina Famosos and Romeo & Julieta Exhibition No.4.

The Rafael Gonzalez Coronas de Lonsdales join their Petit Corona and Perla counterparts in the UK. The heavier ring gauge of the Coronas de Lonsdale compared to 42 and 40 respectively will no doubt attract the attention of cigar smokers looking to explore the nuanced flavour and aromas of this understated, light bodied Habanos brand.

Presented in Semi Boîte Nature (SBN) boxes of ten cigars, the Coronas de Lonsdale are made entirely by hand using long filler tobacco sourced from the legendary plantations of Vuelta Abajo in Pinar del Rio, Cuba.

Tasting Notes

93 / 100

"...The spicy core of leather and cedar takes on some heady notes of coffee bean, earth and cinnamon, all the while filling the room with an enticing aroma. If you see a box, buy it..."

Slightly off burn but flavour was there. Easy going daytime smoke, would probably leave in humi for 6 months as they feel ‘new’ Will definitely buy again
