Punch is one of the very oldest Habano brands. Don Manuel Lopez of Juan Valle & Co  founded it in the mid 19th century with an eye to the booming British market where a humorous magazine of the same name was much in vogue.

A contented Mr Punch, the clown who personified the magazine, is still featured in every box, cigar in hand, and surrounded by 19th Century images of cigar making that remain virtually unchanged over a century and a half later.

In 1931 the Punch became associated with Hoyo de Monterrey and the two brands have been made in the same factory ever since. Today the factory is La Corona.

Punch's distinct medium flavour created with a blend of filler and binder tobaccos from Vuelta Abajo is available in a wide variety of sizes which are all long filler and totally hand made.

Tasting Notes

Starts out quite spicy and settles down to a very nutty, no-nonsense tobacco smoothness. A very pleasant smoke.

89 / 100

"...Veiny and wrinkled in appearance, this cigar has an open, even draw that imparts a nutty smoke with a graham-cracker sweetness and floral undertone, all of which dissipate for a short finish..."

Looks like my earlier review was based on a duff stick. ;-) Went back, tried `em again - not bad at all. A smooth and pleasant smoke - solid laid back Cuban cigar. Pleasant medium flavour - not spicy. 3/5 - they improve when left in the humi for some time (let`s face it, tubos can be YEARS old depending on where you buy `em from - better let `em have a siesta in the humidor first.) - yep, I like this one. written by Dave Francis

Hmmm, nothing "bad" about this cigar at all. It lit well, burned very evenly with a good draw and did not heat up. The only thing is there was not as much flavour as I am used to. This one definately needs 6 motnhs minimum in the humidor. I would guess that these would age well if you stored them for a couple of years, but do not smoke these early. written by A. Dyer

Alas, alack, oi vey and thrice woe. I`m stuck between a 2 and a 3 on this one. Went for the two, you might note. I`m not a great tubo fan - if you like ally clad cigars, you may want to give this a three. Nicely made cigar, no doubt, but having lit it up, I thought, "Er, um" and don`t recall thinking much more about it. I may have got a dud, but I don`t recall it having much in the way of taste - rather like smoking one of Mr Punch`s sausages. Poor cousin to an RyJ - as I said, may be that I just got the "last turkey in the shop" but I can`t for the life of me remember anything at all memorable about Punch`s tubed Coronation. May just try another to confirm or deny it.... may just not. written by Dave Francis
