Punch is one of the very oldest Habano brands. Don Manuel Lopez of Juan Valle & Co  founded it in the mid 19th century with an eye to the booming British market where a humorous magazine of the same name was much in vogue.

A contented Mr Punch, the clown who personified the magazine, is still featured in every box, cigar in hand, and surrounded by 19th Century images of cigar making that remain virtually unchanged over a century and a half later.

In 1931 the Punch became associated with Hoyo de Monterrey and the two brands have been made in the same factory ever since. Today the factory is La Corona.

Punch's distinct medium flavour created with a blend of filler and binder tobaccos from Vuelta Abajo is available in a wide variety of sizes which are all long filler and totally hand made.

Tasting Notes

Starts out quite spicy and settles down to a very nutty, no-nonsense tobacco smoothness. A very pleasant smoke.

89 / 100

"...Veiny and wrinkled in appearance, this cigar has an open, even draw that imparts a nutty smoke with a graham-cracker sweetness and floral undertone, all of which dissipate for a short finish..."

Can't fault these cigars. It was smooth, easy to smoke and lasted around 25 minutes. I will be buying again especially for their reasonable price tag.

A nice looking cigar with good construction and a nice looking wrapper. On lighting, roasted flavours emerge, a hint of coffee and cocoa, light spice. The cigar is definitely in the medium strength range- the flavours and strength were consistent throughout but did not develop further from the first third through to the finish. A smooth smoke. Enjoyed with a Ruby Port.

I have taken a keen interest in cigar smoking over the past 18 months, and have just got round to the process of filling my beautiful humidor. I having been narrowing down cigar after cigar in a hunt for my favourite type, a potentially lengthy and costly process as I'm sure you will all agree. However, I was delighted with this smoke, it ticked all the boxes a journeyman like myself would wish for. I was put on to it by a fellow smoker at a store in my home city, and will definitely be lining my humidor with these beauties. Top marks for a relaxing, light smoke!

I'm a relative novice smoker , I've smoked for a while but am just now at the stage where I'm buying and storing cigars as well as smoking them as opposed to just "buy-smoke-repeat". What to say about the Punch Coronations? Visually this isn't an enormous cigar but it's certainly perfectly formed. While not having experienced a full range of different draws yet, I found this a very easy cigar to smoke. On lighting, the thick, white smoke billowed and almost filled the room on the first draw, the burn was even from end to end and the cigar didn't need relighting or any mid-smoke maintenance. The flavour started off quite mild, with almost a taste of how leather smells (if that makes sense), earthy and satisfying without being overpowering. Within about the first 1/3 of the cigar the flavour developed and I could pick up coffee notes with a not-too-spicy element which caught my palette with a bit of the sensation you'd experience after eating a lot of chocolate, dry yet somehow moist at the same time, but again - not unpleasant. All in all, I think this is a superb cigar for the money (£9.00/stick at time of writing) and is a good size for those moments when one doesn't have the time to nurse a big stogie. If you're new to cigars or perhaps haven't tried a Cuban cigar before, the Punch Coronations represents an excellent place to start.

I bought these as a reasonably priced good quality cigar - I am a novice but my inexperienced opinion is that these are a beautiful smoke - very smooth all the way down, kind of creamy (I don't have the palate yet to make a more accurate assessment). I'd say these are lovely - no hesitation in giving them five stars! :)
