The Nurnberg brothers Friedrich and Heinrich Kapp, whose elegant Dublin tobacconist first opened for business in 1865 on Grafton Street, Dublin could scarcely have dreamt that they would participate in the birth of a legend.

Friedrich & Heinrich, who christened their shop simply 'Kapp Brothers', soon made a name for themselves making and selling quality Meerschaum and Briar Root pipes. It was not long before Charles Peterson, walked into Kapp Brothers Grafton Street premises armed with a revolutionary pipe and ambitious plans for the future.

There and then, Peterson suggested that the brothers go into partnership with him to turn his pipe dream into the world's dream pipe. They agreed and the company was renamed Kapp & Peterson. Kapp and Peterson went on to become Dublin's most fashionable and respected manufacturer and purveyor of fine smoking products. Pipe and cigar smokers would stroll down to the elegant premises for professional advice on the subtle nuances that determine a good handmade cigar or pipe. The Peterson brand was embraced by politicians, business leaders, sportsmen, artists and writers.

The skills and craft which Charles Peterson applied to his original invention are continued by the dedicated team of craftsmen at Peterson today. Whether as a gift for a friend or for your own personal use, you will appreciate the excellence of the Peterson range of cigars, tobaccos, pipes and smoking accessories.

Peterson 3P's Plug Pipe Tobacco, also known as Peterson's Perfect Plug is more than just a smoking experience.

Don't be put off that this is a plug pipe tobacco. If you've never prepared plug before, here's a little guidance to ensure you can benefit from its wonderful flavour.

Opening the tin you'll find a carefully packaged brick of densely packed tobacco leaves, that have in fact been pressed, heated and stored for two weeks before cutting. You'll notice an aroma of fermented raisin, prune and date which mildly comes through in the smoke.

Take the plug and cut, with a sharp knife, against the grain into thin flakes. With the now flaked tobacco, you may proceed as you would normally with any other flake. You may choose to rub it out, cube it, fold it or myriad other preparation methods.

This tobacco smokes best when you achieve a light fluffy crumb, the finer and lighter the more thoroughly it burns.

Please note: Pipe used is for illustration purposes only.

If this is your first order on this particular product you will need to email a scan of your passport at the photo page or provide proof of age as we legally need to ensure that we are not selling this product to under 18's. Tasting Notes

There's enjoyment to be had from preparing this plug tobacco as much as there is in the satisfaction of smoking it.

With two varieties of leaves, African and Brazilian Virginias and Burley from Malawi, and a little topping, there's no crowding of tastes.

It delivers wonderful caramel toffee smoke that's not too sweet and can be appreciated by the novice and expert pipe smoker alike.

It took two bowls for this to become one of my favourite tobaccos. Cut it finely, leave it in the tin overnight, pack lightly and SIP. The topping is light and let’s the beautiful tobacco flavours shine through, this now starts my day in a Bantam bowl on my Falcon and it’s hard to resist packing it right back up again.

One of the last few plug style tobaccos left on the market and one of my favourites. It is a solid, dark block of tobacco that gives off a rich, slightly fruity aroma. It takes a few firm slices to cut it down into slightly waxy flakes that break up easily for smoking, but it is well worth it. The flavour is about what the smell would imply: strong tobacco notes with a hint of fruit and a slightly spicy edge. As with all twists and plugs, the act of slowly preparing the tobacco for your pipe can almost be as satisfying as smoking it! - Calum
