If there is one particularly famous cigar factory in Havana, it is Partagas. The factory was opened in 1845 by Don Jaime Partagas and it has been making the cigars that bear his name ever since.

A Partagas is immediately recognisable by its deep, earthly flavour. The character of its blend springs from a selection of filler and binder tobaccos grown in the Vuelta Abajo zone and chosen for their unmistakable richness of flavour and aroma.

The best known of all Partagas is the Serie D No. 4, the robusto size that formed part of the legendary Partagas alphabet series that dates back to the 1930's. In 2005 a Piramide, the Partagas Serie P No. 2, was added to the range, which fast became a cigar of choice amongst lovers of full flavoured Habanos. In 2011 the Serie D No. 5 and the heavy ring gauge Serie E No. 2 extended the alphabet series once again.

Tasting Notes

This cigar will definitely improve with age. With its countless flavours and spice sweet flavour, this cigar is a must for Partagas fans. A noble smoke which expresses the rich, earthy spices associated with Partagas. The superb blend makes this an ideal candidate for laying down and aging.

A whole lot of cigar! Not for the inexperienced or feint faint hearted, of which I am both. The 1st 3rd was beautiful. Full flavoured leathery smoke. 2nd 3rd started to take its toll on me, and by the final 3rd I was struggling with the spiciness and getting light headed. For the beginner I would recommend a much smaller vitola of Paratagas or a milder blend in the Romeo y Julieta Belicosos. I cant really give a low score as it was clearly a fine quality tobacco I was smoking and the draw was great throughout. It was just a bit too much for me. This may be one to revisit in 6 months time.

Whilst everyone seems to be busy talking about the Series D No.2, this, for me, was the standout cigar for me during a recent trip to Havana. Fabulous construction, even burn and flawless draw comprising mouthfuls of Partagas' earthy, peppery flavours. A must smoke.

Just superb after 3 years' ageing, with full, rich and satisfying flavours. Medium strength and very well balanced, so that it's really quite a challenge to identify individual components; a bit of spice, earth, coffee, honey, vanilla maybe. However these are nothing special when younger, so be patient!

Have tried Partagas cigars before and haven been keen on them . But this is something else a very enjoyable smoke. Good draw , even burn , great flavour and lasts one and half hours . Have bought 3 more to be kept for special occasions.
