The Oliva Cigar story began in the late 1800s, when Melanio Oliva started growing cigar tobacco in Cuba. His heirs carried on the family tradition in the fields, but it was his grandson Gilberto Oliva Sr. who began making cigars. 

Nicaraguan tobacco helped Oliva survive. The cigar that brought it to the attention of connoisseurs debuted in 2006: Oliva Serie V. Made by a small group of rollers and blended for strength and style, the Serie V line was an immediate hit. In 2012, to pay tribute to the first man in the family to grow cigar tobacco, Oliva added the Melanio version, which is distinguished from the original by its Sumatra-seed wrapper grown in Ecuador. The No. 1 Cigar of the Year 2014, Oliva Serie V Melanio Figuarado has rich, big notes of leather framed by a range of coffee, caramel and woody intonations. It’s a classic smoke.

The remarkable 45 minute record is now ready to guide every aficionado’s experience with this fantastic, exclusive cigar. It is aptly named #dontsmokebutenjoy.

The cigar arose form a simple conversation between Montag & Fred Vandermalie, CEO of VCF, the mother company of Oliva Cigar Company. Both men started talking about the introspective power of both classical music and cigars. Aficionados will be able to scan a QR code to access Paul Montag’s album when they embark on their mixed music and cigar experience.

The partnership is linked to the launch of the Serie V Melanio Gran Toro Edición Año 2024, this 5 1/2 x 60 cigar has the exact same Serie V Melanio wrapper, filler and binder that brings so many aficionados to enjoy and celebrate Oliva’s craftsmanship.

The Serie V Melanio is full flavoured yet smooth. The long filler tobaccos are a blend of Oliva Nicaraguan habano that emphasizes tobacco from the Jalapa region, an area known for a more nuanced leaf than the Esteli or Condega regions. This carefully aged Jalapa blend produces a particularly flavoured smoke.
