Nikka Discovery The Grain 2023 Release - 48% 70cl

Nikka Discovery Series: The Grain is a blend of seven grain whiskies from four of Nikka’s distilleries, with vintage Coffey Grain from Miyagikyo at its core (along with Coffey Malt, made from 100% malted barley).

What’s especially notable about The Grain is that it contains whiskies from two distilleries, Moji and Satsumatsukasa, which have historically been used for distilling shochu.

These have been described by Nikka as “experimental” and employ corn and rye.

Matured in premium oak casks for an undisclosed period, this whisky has been allowed to develop and refine its character to perfection.

The oak aging imparts a rich, deep flavour, enhancing the natural essence of the grain.

Bottled at 48% ABV, it strikes a perfect balance.

Nose:  Mouthwatering aromas of marshmallow, caramel.

Palate: Creamy sweetness of almond. Coconut milk takes centre stage, enhanced by subtle vanilla and surprising notes of liquorice, cinnamon, and ginger.

Finish: The smooth, balanced finish echoes the initial aromatic profile. Cereals and herbs making a return, accompanied by mint, acacia honey, and lingering floral scents of broom and mimosa
