Montecristo is the best known and probably most appreciated brand of Habanos throughout the world. It forms the benchmark for many Habanos smokers against which other brands are judged.

The name comes from the hero of Alexandre Dumas' famous novel 'The Count of Montecristo,' which was a firm favourite when read by the Lector to the Torcedores (cigar makers) at the factory where it was founded in 1935.

The original Montecristo range of sizes was composed of a narrow assortment numbered from 1 to 5. Today it consists of a wide variety of vitolas to cover every level of the cigar enthusiast's needs.

Montecristo's perfectly balanced blends are created exclusively with selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone, home of the finest tobaccos in the world.

Tasting Notes

A true icon in the world of great Havana cigars. This Mareva expresses the crisp and spicy flavours that we associate so much with Montecristo, it is ideal with an espresso in the afternoon.

"...Though rustic in appearance, this corona has a dead-even burn and lush draw. It's floral and salty with earthy elements and sweeter touches of cocoa powder..."

Such a shame; the No. 4 was my re-introduction to cigars about 7 or 8 years ago when I quit smoking, all of a sudden I could afford a good cigar ! My son bought me a humidor for X-mas and off I went, maybe I was just lucky but my first two or three boxes of 10 were fabulous and I only dabbled in NW cigars. Then the plugging started, even in 5 boxes Id get at least one um-smokable, in the 10s 2 or 3. I left it a few years, maybe, I thought, maybe theyd had a bad harvest or two or so then last month bought a box of 10, first 2 were lovely, 3rd was tight as hell in the last 3rd, but I didnt get to the last third (I could feel where it was so tight)Ive clipped it and looking around the net, put in a zip and in the fridge, you never know. Wont be buying again, we pay so much Tax in the UK this could make it unaffordable, Im not kidding, almost £15 to throw it away? No. Ive counted the 10 boxes, Ive kept most of them and there are 9 probably more in the bin over the years, you cant keep everything! I cant count the NWs Ive smoked, not ONE plug, really, Im sad, old fashioned and keep a diary for appointments and stuff, and my cigars that day, what I had to eat and drink, the weather, you know... so no false memory here. Sorry Cuba, I really am. I put you under a personal embargo.

Draw was fine and the first third was a nice experience sitting in the garden with a good coffee. Burn was slightly uneven but nothing drastic. Last third got bitter and very earthy and didn’t really enjoy it so much.

Where do I start...got my first one months ago and it’s been sitting in my humidor nicely and decided to smoke it last night sitting in outside in front of the fire pit.The draw was just ridiculously tight and was like trying to suck an orange through a straw.I did did have trouble with it staying alight.Taste wise is was great but I was very disappointed with how hard I had to work at it to smoke it.Honestly thought this would be my go to cigar after what I’d read but think I’ll look else where.

I bought a box of ten on my last order, and its safe to say this will now become a staple of my humidor. Easy cut, easy draw and easy light. The only slight issue was a rather uneven burn early on, but it rectified itself and gave me around half an hour of joy sat out on my deck in the sun. Flavour is good from the off, with some mild development as it got further down. A decent, full-ish flavour that didnt get harsh at all, and no one flavour overpowered anything else. Plenty of smoke, well built very easy to smoke.

The cigar itself has a good taste, the nice go-to cigar. Unfortunately, oftentimes the cigar has drawing issues, that without a cigar needle is pretty much unsmokeable. Also, sometimes the internal leaves are grey, which is not very good.
