MONTECRISTO

Montecristo is the best known and probably the most appreciated brand of Havanas throughout the world. It forms the benchmark for many Havana smokers against which other brands are judged.

The name comes from Alexandre Dumas’ famous novel ‘The Count of Montecristo’, which was a firm favourite when read to the Torcedores (cigar rollers) at the factory where it was founded in 1935.

The original Montecristo range of sizes was composed of a narrow assortment numbered from 1 to 5. Today it consists of a wide variety of vitolas to cover every level of the cigar enthusiast’s needs.

Whether it is within the classic medium-to-full line, the lighter Open Series or the newer, more powerful, Linea 1935, Montecristo’s perfectly balanced blends are all created exclusively with selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone, home of the finest tobaccos in the world.

NO. 4

The most popular individual handmade cigar in the UK. Its rich, tangy, medium to full flavour acts as the benchmark for the most smokers embarking on the journey to find their preferred Habano. Many return to it.

Tasting Notes

A true icon in the world of great Havana cigars. This Mareva expresses the crisp and spicy flavours that we associate so much with Montecristo, it is ideal with an espresso in the afternoon.

91 / 100

"A coarse-looking, veiny petit corona that tastes better than it looks. Floral, herbal notes pick up hints of black tea before the cigar reveals a sweetness redolent of cinnamon-coated nuts. Both the draw and burn are even..."

I bought a couple of these and managed to refrain from smoking the first, choosing instead to lay it down in my humi for over a week. After lighting the cigar the initial taste was quite mild and creamy and I thought I was going to enjoy a fine cigar. Unfortunately after about 5 mins the taste became quite harsh and unpleasing. This lasted until about half way through the smoke when a surprising nice chocolate and coffee taste started to come through, however this was short lived and lasted for about 15mins. The rest of the cigar was again rather harsh an unpleasant and so I put it out earlier than I would have normally liked. This cigar had a number of burn problems and had to re-light it 5 -6 times which without doubt affected the taste due to its obvious construction problems. The 2nd was smoked a week later. This was much better and a completely different cigar it burned well was quite mild there was mild hints of coffee and a odd hint of spice but this smoke was not very complex. written by Mr

Once described to me as the table wine of Cuban cigars, I can understand why. They are agreeable to mostly everyone, but will not blow away the experienced smoker. To start off with as a first cuban or an everyday cuban smoke, they are good, but above that they are average. written by mmeadows
