MONTECRISTO

Montecristo is the best known and probably the most appreciated brand of Havanas throughout the world. It forms the benchmark for many Havana smokers against which other brands are judged.

The name comes from Alexandre Dumas’ famous novel ‘The Count of Montecristo’, which was a firm favourite when read to the Torcedores (cigar rollers) at the factory where it was founded in 1935.

The original Montecristo range of sizes was composed of a narrow assortment numbered from 1 to 5. Today it consists of a wide variety of vitolas to cover every level of the cigar enthusiast’s needs.

Whether it is within the classic medium-to-full line, the lighter Open Series or the newer, more powerful, Linea 1935, Montecristo’s perfectly balanced blends are all created exclusively with selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone, home of the finest tobaccos in the world.

NO. 5

The smallest of Montecristo's original, tightly defined range. A good pressed cigar with flavour and aroma that develops during smoking. A faithful companion almost anywhere.

Please note: Matches not included.

Tasting Notes

It has all the qualities of the brand and is a real appetizer, intense sweet/spicy flavour similar to chocolate mixed with raisins. Delicious.

93 / 100

"Made with a flat head and dark wrapper, this diminutive smoke is bold from the start with red pepper, leather and earthy impressions supported by touches of oak and espresso. There is a hint of molasses on the finish. The combustion is even, though the draw is a touch firm..."

This has got to be the worst cigar Ive ever had. Bought it at close of play from Chester to have while having a swift pint. Cant tell you what the Ash burn was like because it didnt stay lit long enough to get any, when it did light it burned uneven every time at one point it burned down the center of the cigar leaving the sides unlit. It reminded me of one of my nans woodbines from years ago, cigar seemed damp inside could not get a draw from it at all, binned it half way down and its not a large cigar. Will not be buying this brand again, maybe a bit harsh but you expect to be able to enjoy all there brands regardless of the price.

Originally purchased this from the main shop in Liverpool as recommend by Evan.Very tasty enjoyable smoke. With this in mind I ordered a further two more online along with a few other cigars. After receiving I noticed some green discolouration on one of the cigars. After emailing Liam (with images attached, including humidor readings which were fine) I was advised that this was just superficial and would not affect the overall experience of the smoke. Unfortunately in my opinion the smoke for some reason was very different. The burn was not even at all, the cigar needed constant re-lighting, and the drag seemed poor. Now I don’t claim to be any sort of expert, however I have smoked a fair few cigars. This was definitely one of the worst. Still tempted to try another No5 but perhaps from another supplier, although I will still purchase from here unless the issues Im having continue.

I've smoked dozens of these and never had a bad one. Consistent construction with the classic Montecristo taste. The perla size makes it perfect as an everyday smoke or for when time does not allow for a bigger cigar. Smoked slowly the flavours are better and can last over half an hour. I always enjoy these down to the nub and burn my fingers.

For me this was a terrible smoke, construction and draw ok, but as for the taste there was not even a hint of sweetness, it was very harsh and tasted of bad strong burnt liquorice (I normally like liquorice) Anyway a double thumbs down Monte No.5

I received this as part of a 'short but sweet' sampler & found it to be the tightest cigar I have ever encountered. The band came away as soon as I touched it & having toasted & lit the cigar it went downhill from there. Unsmokable, a very disappointing experience which I allowed to expire & disregard. Needless to say I shall not be purchasing again. I thoroughly enjoy the Montecristo Purito as a 10 minute 'beer garden' smoke & my experience of the 'Open Master' was delightful. Unless you enjoy trying to suck a golf ball through a hose pipe, buy something else...
