MONTECRISTO

Montecristo is the best known and probably the most appreciated brand of Havanas throughout the world. It forms the benchmark for many Havana smokers against which other brands are judged.

The name comes from Alexandre Dumas’ famous novel ‘The Count of Montecristo’, which was a firm favourite when read to the Torcedores (cigar rollers) at the factory where it was founded in 1935.

The original Montecristo range of sizes was composed of a narrow assortment numbered from 1 to 5. Today it consists of a wide variety of vitolas to cover every level of the cigar enthusiast’s needs.

Whether it is within the classic medium-to-full line, the lighter Open Series or the newer, more powerful, Linea 1935, Montecristo’s perfectly balanced blends are all created exclusively with selected filler and binder leaves from the Vuelta Abajo zone, home of the finest tobaccos in the world.

NO. 4

The most popular individual handmade cigar in the UK. Its rich, tangy, medium to full flavour acts as the benchmark for the most smokers embarking on the journey to find their preferred Habano. Many return to it.

Tasting Notes

A true icon in the world of great Havana cigars. This Mareva expresses the crisp and spicy flavours that we associate so much with Montecristo, it is ideal with an espresso in the afternoon.

91 / 100

"A coarse-looking, veiny petit corona that tastes better than it looks. Floral, herbal notes pick up hints of black tea before the cigar reveals a sweetness redolent of cinnamon-coated nuts. Both the draw and burn are even..."

Of the 20, or so, cigars Ive tried - this is by far my favourite. It has an indescribably smooth and clean flavour which Ive not found anywhere else.

This no 4 has been in my humidor for 3 months now and when I came to smoke it I found that the salty tang was marvellous. The draw was excellent front the start and I was able to hold on to the ash for the first third. Delicious throughout and very crisp and even. A real prize

A touch up to my review of June 18th: I was VERY happily surprised to receive an E-mail from Hayley at CGars offering me help with plugged/tight Cuban cigars that took me by surprise :) You just dont get this kind of customer service these days! Anyway, Ive binned a good few of No.4s (and a few others but mostly Cubans) , over the years. from many different retailers NOT just CGars so its not this companys fault by any means! But Ive recently picked up a tip on the Net that Id thought counterintuitive but tried it: A plug is different, I cant say Ive tried that yet , but for a tight cigar, seal it up in a zip lock bag and chuck it the fridge overnight, youll be amazed! I hasnt failed me yet, no they dont puff perfectly but well enough to not throw it away and no matter how many gadgets I buy they never really work, the fridge does, and we all have one anyway. No, I cant figure out the physics of it, the bag for the odour, yes, but cold? Maybe contracts the filler ? Binder? I just dont know but it seems to work and has saved me a good few cigars (and money) recently. CGars customer service ...a six out of five and a big thank you.
