Matured in 90% bourbon and 10% sherry casks.
This heavily peated release is the seventh batch in the Peat in Progress series from the Glengyle distillery.
If you are peat fan then this whisky does not disappoint with lashings of well integrated earthy peat and a characteristic sweetness.
A great dram that shows that this distillery is on course to one of the greats.
Bottled in 2022, at a robust 59.1% with no added colour and no chill filtration.
Nose: Bonfire smoke with flashes of vanilla, honey and toasty oak.
Palate: Explosions of peat define the palate but there's depth too with cocoa nibs, chocolate-covered raisins and dried orange peel.
Finish: The sherry influence is present and well integrated but allows the peat to shine.
