Description

This sixth edition of the Heavily Peated malt showcases a different side of the normally lightly peated Kilkerran range.

Offering an alternative to the usual lightly peated Kilkerran-The Batch 6 Heavily Peated release is every bit as good as previous batches.

This release was crafted at the Glengyle distillery in Campbeltown which re-opened in 2004 after laying dormant for 79 years.

Enjoy this complex cask strength whisky with copious amounts of sweet peat and maritime flavours with a sweetness to the peat and a clear maritime influence.

Found in one of the most remote parts of Scotland, the Springbank distillery is still family-owned. Situated on the western parts of Scotland on the Kintyre Peninsula, it is owned by J & A Mitchell & Company.

They also own Glengyle Distillery, William Cadenheads (the oldest independent bottler) and several other blended scotch labels.

They are tough cookies down in this neck of the world whereby they are one of the last surviving producers of single malt whiskies in Campbeltown.

They have been licensed in 1828 and at one time the area had over thirty active distilleries. The distillery produces both peated and unpeated expressions under three distinct brands. Springbank, Hazelburn and Longrow.

Batch 6 from the Heavily Peated release from Kilkerran, this whisky was bottled at 57.4% ABV.

Tasting Notes

Nose: Toasted marshmallows and notes of leather bound books kick off this heavily peated dram, along with notes of lobster creels and tarred ropes by the seaside hinting at the characteristic maritime influence.

Palate: Sweet peat smoke with notes of honeycomb, gingerbread and mint. A fruity element develops over time in hints of pineapple and banana.

Finish: A peppery finish with notes of allspice, the peat smoke endures to the conclusion of this dram.
